Late at night, eleven thirty.
Wendy Wayne stared at the dial pad, her fingers tentatively poised to press down.
It was Hugh Ronan's secretary's phone number.
To call or not to call, she was indecisive.
Because Wendy was wondering, if she found out Hugh was fooling around outside, should she curse him before breaking off the engagement, or just break it off and block him directly?
Before she could find an answer to this question, the phone screen flickered as a call came in.
Wendy's heart immediately leapt into her throat.
Hugh Ronan!
She suppressed her panic, waited for the phone to vibrate for more than ten seconds, and then slowly picked up.
The woman didn't speak, but from the other end came the man's complaining voice, "Took you so long to answer, were you asleep?"
An unexplainable fury surged within Wendy, her tone unbearably cold, "Hmm, what's up?"
