Mr. Grayjoy, Lady Xanthe, Kina, and Ahil moved from one wing to the next—then the next, and the next.
Nearly an hour slipped away in small talk, hollow banter, and polite chatter that failed to interest the teens in the slightest. Still, they couldn't complain.
While the adults talked business and pleasantries, the two helped themselves to whatever confectionery was offered. Eventually, even that lost its appeal—at least for one of them.
Ahil, having grown up in the Ninth Heavenly City, was painfully familiar with this lifestyle. Private wings, excessive luxury, rare foods and confectionaries, wealthy elites recycling the same conversations about business, money, and power—he had endured it all before, and far worse.
