Defeat.
Tough pill to swallow.
Even worse knowing you lose everything when you admit it.
I managed to pull a body from the rubble. A child. I don't know who she was, her face and body were beyond recognizable. The force of pulling her body had further damaged her physical state.
Her leg had come off.
I sat there, just cradling this body... this child. She came from here, the Orphanage, she was my family. She must have been. I just sat there, crying silently in the darkness of the night - there was nothing to live for.
Defeat.
Nothing left to say, nothing left to do.
We lost. The state of the city proved it. This child proved we lost.
"I couldn't save you...I'm sorry"
I whispered, cradling the child, sobbing under the moonlight.

Inside StormHolden Palace
"Fuck!"
The sword clashed against the harden skin of the Abysmal terror. Stuck. The Hero Klaus let go of the sword, dodging the blows of the four-armed beast he was battling against.
"Romulus, do it now!" Klaus bellowed, praying this attack would some damage to the beast in front of them.
The red robed mage stood in front of Klaus, arms opened wide to release his lightning cast magic 'Ethereal light' A streak of lightning could be seen being gathered from the surroundings inside the palace and struck down on the sword lodged in the skin of the beast. A thunderous crack could be heard throughout the palace and the surroundings as the cast took place.
The beast bellowed in agony, unable to control itself, collapses. The sword fell, scattering across the room.
" Hero...Klaus, did we do it?" The Saintess Jasmine whispered. Jasmine wracked with pain as she was healing her friend and fellow party member Ophelia. The Hero party, utterly drained from the long battle against the terrifying beast.
"Take no chances, once Ophelia can move- we check" Romulus instructed, nothing could be taken to chance. Who the fuck would? Many parties, died under this beast, bones and clothes scattered everywhere. Why were they so lucky?
Klaus next to Romulus examined the beast- no sign of movement, he couldn't be too sure. As he moved forward, he heard the sound of footsteps far behind him...
--
I sat still for the longest time, clinging onto the child. I couldn't do much for her, so I left her among the pile of rubble and moved forward. Aimlessly walking across the cobbled streets, how long since the destruction took place?
Being one of the scouts to be deployed before the war, the city was safe when I left. What went so wrong?
My confusion soon turned into anger, the harsh reality of losing both my home and the battlefield wasn't possible.
What was I fighting for... Was anything worth it?
I needed answers, something. Tell me this war saved lives. Tell me we can build a new home. I want to see Sister again. Bringing me out of my anguish, I heard sounds of battle near the center. The palace was nearby.
--
Running towards the center, I reached the palace. I held my breath...
The palace was in ruins, barely being supported. With nothing else in my sight, I head inside. The once grand palace, holding the mightiest of warriors, the Stormholden royals was nowhere to be seen. Instead it had the dangerous look of a A class dungeon. Terror festered within me, hearing the noise of battle once again, a thunderous crack could be heard.
F*cking hell.
I rushed my way through the many doors of the palace to the epicenter of the mana fluctuation. An enormous black abysmal beast could be seen on the floor. Bigger than any beast I've seen in the field laying there... Where did the mana fluctuation come from?
I felt a cold sword pressed against my neck, I suppressed the urge to jump away- How did they come up behind me undetected?
"Who are you" a cold voice boomed
Silence
"F*cking state yourself "
Shit.
"Wrexler Crow 22" I said. Itching to jump away; I had to keep my anger hidden, all my senses now were on full alert.
Silence
"Wrexler Crow? The special branch squad?"
