Chapter 6 - 6 New Experiences 2

Her reaction is what I want to avoid from other people. I don't want them to look at me like that. "Mom, I don't want to dress this way. I don't feel comfortable with you staring at me like that." "Lana, you look gorgeous in this dress. One thing is sure: people will definitely turn back to look at you when you walk on the streets." I had no other choice than to go to school dressed that way. On my way, what my mom said was a prophecy that came to pass. The staring was so much that I began to feel uncomfortable. Thank God I reached school really fast. It's can't be possible that my pupils too appreciated my dressing, and it did not end there—even my colleagues appreciated me—but everything went on smoothly. I enjoyed teaching, and everything happened so fast that I was stunned when I saw the time.

ONE MONTH LATER..... Teaching is very interesting. I love every part of it, and guess what? It was time to have our first salary. It feels so good to earn and use money you worked so hard for. I felt proud of myself for once, and I was eager to meet my mom. I went back home and met my mom. In my culture, when you receive your first salary, you don't use it before showing it to your parents. They have to bless you and pray for you before you use the money. It is very important because by doing this you show how grateful you are, and you get a lot of blessings from your elders which will work for you. I called my mom into the parlor and told her that I got my first salary. I took everything out and gave it to her, and she asked me to kneel, and she held my hands. "Oh God Almighty. My daughter asked for a job, and You gave her one. Today, we want to thank You for all You have done for us, and I pray that You continue to bless her abundantly. May she never lack in whatever she does, and may all her efforts always lead to great achievements. It's in the Mighty name of Jesus I have prayed. Amen." She prayed. "Amen! I pray that you achieve great things with this money in Jesus' name. Amen." "My dear daughter, I want you to always remove tithes from your salary. You know that it is good to do that, and you will see how things will work for you. I will not ask for anything more; you do a lot for us already, and I am so grateful for that." "Mama, I work for this money for us, and I don't mind if you take some money for yourself." "I just need your tithes, and I know that you will always be there for me," she said. "Okay, take the tithes, and we are going to the supermarket to buy stuff for the house. Mom, please can you make a list while I freshen up?" "No problem, my baby. But won't you have lunch before we go?" "No, Mom, don't worry; I'm not that hungry." I left for the bathroom, and I had a strange feeling. I felt so eager to go to the supermarket. This is strange; I never feel this way for an outing.
