Chapter 86: Tsunade
Tsunade marched toward the Uzumaki residence with her fists clenched, each stomp of her foot filled with irritation. She was tired, stressed from two months of mission work, and desperately craving the one thing that usually helped her relax gambling and drinking. And yet, all of that had been taken away.
Taken by one man.
Uzumaki Raiken.
She had heard plenty about him. A prodigy among his clan that he was chosen to become clan leader at the age of 16. A reformer that make the relationship between Uchiha and Uzumaki become close. Someone who dared to anger even her teacher, Sarutobi Hiruzen. But Tsunade never cared about politics. She only cared that this man had indirectly ruined her favorite way to relax and she wanted answers.
Just as she reached the entrance of the Uzumaki residence, she halted because she saw her grandmother, Uzumaki Mito stepped out of the residence.
"Raiken, you did a good job," Mito praised, her voice filled with approval that came from genuine pride.
Raiken thanked her respectfully. But before anyone could continue, Mito turned her head. Her sharp senses had noticed Tsunade chakra signal even before she arrived.
"Tsunade," Mito said softly.
"Grandma," Tsunade blurted, surprised to see her there.
Mito raised a brow. "Are you here for me?"
Tsunade shook her head and jabbed her finger straight at Raiken. "No, Grandma. I came to meet him."
"Me?" Raiken blinked, clearly not expecting that.
Tsunade marched right up to him. "Yes, you! Because of you, every casino and every winery in the village is closed! I just came back from missions, and I can't even gamble or drink! Do you know how long I've been looking forward to this?!"
Mito sighed quietly. Raiken, however, remained calm.
He chuckled lightly. "Lady Tsunade… that's what you're angry about?"
"What else would I be angry about?!" she snapped, her cheeks slightly flushed from frustration. "Your clan inventions destroyed half the entertainment district! No gambling, no drinking, nothing! You ruined everything!"
Raiken didn't respond at first. He simply let her vent, watching her rant like an irritated teenager, because that was exactly what she was at this point in her life.
After a few moments, Tsunade paused to catch her breath.
"Are you done?" Raiken asked gently.
"No! I...."
"You may continue," he said, raising a hand. "Go on. Say everything you want."
Tsunade opened her mouth again and ranted for another minute. How missions were stressful. How she deserved to relax. How she hated coming home to closed stores. How it was all Raiken fault.
Raiken waited patiently.
Once she stopped again, he nodded. "Are you finished now?"
She glared but said nothing.
"Good," Raiken said, his voice turning firm. "Now let me tell you something, Lady Tsunade."
He stepped closer, his tone calm but carrying weight.
"Since the Fire Stove Scroll was introduced, the number of fire-related accidents in civilian homes has dropped by ninety percent. Poor families can cook safely without burning their homes."
Tsunade stiffened slightly but said nothing.
"Since the Nerve Gear Scroll was released, alcohol-related violence has decreased. Gambling addicts have found something else to occupy their minds. And do you know what else? Not a single girl in Konoha has gone missing in two months."
"The people of Konoha are safer. Healthier. And happier."
Tsunade mouth opened, but no sound came out.
Raiken tilted his head slightly. "So tell me, Lady Tsunade… With all that improvement — do you still believe closing casinos and wineries is a tragedy?"
Tsunade clenched her jaw. She wanted to argue. She wanted to yell again. But the words wouldn't come. Because deep inside, she knew he was right.
Mito rested a gentle hand on her granddaughter's shoulder. "Tsunade… Sometimes, progress tastes bitter at first. Only later will you understand its value."
Raiken stepped back politely. "If you still wish to complain, my door is always open. But next time… bring a better reason."
Tsunade clicked her tongue, crossed her arms, and looked away feeling irritated, embarrassed, and begrudgingly defeated.
"Lady Tsunade, you might think alcohol is just a way for you to become happy but those who addicted to alcohol and gambling tend to abuse their wife and child at home," revealed Raiken. "I don't think it is wrong to close down somethign that corrupted other people."
"How... What do you mean by abusing others?" asked Tsunade feel irritated.
"Come here with me Tsunade and you too Lady Mito," said Raiken signaled them enter Uzumaki residence.
Mito could only sighed before dragging Tsunade inside.
After that Raiken signaled them to sit first before taking out something from his room, he pulled out a sealed document, a written testimony accompanied by a short memory-recording scroll.
"There is something you should see," Raiken said quietly.
Tsunade frowned. "What is that?"
"A reality you have never witnessed."
He placed the document between Tsunade and Mito. With a simple tap of chakra, the memory-recording scroll activated, projecting faint images and voices above it like a miniature illusion.
A small house appeared, cramped, messy, broken. The walls had cracks. Furniture was overturned. A woman stood in the corner, holding a trembling child. Her eyes were swollen from crying.
A man stumbled into the room, drunk and enraged.
"You useless woman! Where is the money?!" he shouted.
The child flinched as the man raised his hand. The mother covered her child with her own body, sobbing. "Please! We don't have anything left! You gambled it all!"
The man kicked over a small drawer, screaming. "If I don't get my money back today, the collectors will break my legs! Give me something to sell! Jewelry! Clothes! Anything!"
The woman cried harder. The child wailed.
The projection continued.... showing nights of violence, days without food, and the slow collapse of the family.
Tsunade felt her stomach twist.
"This…" she muttered while gritting her teeth, unable to look away.
Mito, standing beside her, pressed her lips together tightly. Her eyes softened with sorrow and anger not at Raiken, but at the cruelty of the man.
The next scene showed the same man being dragged away by Police Force officers. The mother and child were crying.... but this time, with relief. Uchiha police escorted them to safety.
The final part of the recording showed them months later.
The child was smiling.
The mother was healthy again.
They were working at an Uzumaki workshop, clean, bright, safe.
"This…" Mito whispered. "What is this Raiken?"
Raiken nodded. "There are dozens more and this is one of the family we saved."
"How many families were like this?" she asked, voice hoarse.
"Too many," Raiken answered. "And every one of them existed because the brothels and casinos continued to thrive."
She looked away, jaw tight. "This is… terrible."
"Yes," Raiken said softly. "And now it is changing."
"Tsunade… You may dislike we invent something that make alcohol, prostitution and casino closed but those thing corrupting the society. The only reason you didn't feel the impact of you gambling is because your family has a lot of money and even if you are in debt they won't beat you or cut your hand.
"…I didn't know," muttered Tsunade.
Raiken dipped his head respectfully. "Most don't. That is why I showed it to you and the worst thing is, Casino, Winery and Brothel are legal business that Police Force can't intervent."
Tsunade paused before nodded and walked away leaving the residence.
For the first time, she see the bad side effect of gambling and drinking. But what she had seen earlier just a tip of side effect, there is a lot of document and record, of those who are addicted with gambling and drinking.
