Chapter 1 - Prologue: Regret-filled Lifetime

I was just an average human like the majority. I did not possess a genius talent or good background. I was merely an average youth before I met a certain person.

That person changed my life as a whole. We had a great time together but it ultimately came to an end.

"...This is the end for me...can you fulfill my dream in my place...?"

"Yes, I promise, master!"

It was a promise to my master whom I owe too much during my life. Despite knowing my talent is average at most, I strived to fulfill my master's dream with my all.

I remember my father always used to say, hard work can beat talent.

"...Father, you were wrong..."

I lay here on this frozen land, surrounded by snow. I could not see anything other than this white background.

"...Hard work can't beat talent. I tried and gave it my all but..."

I lamented my lack of talent and helplessness. The frigid wind touched my injured body, numbing it.

"...I couldn't fulfill the promise. I'm sorry...master..."

Was the world this unfair? No, it should be, the world has always been unfair. Equality doesn't exist, it was merely something to dream about.

"Haaa..."

As I release, possibly my last sigh, my vision started becoming blurry. I've already lost all sensations in my body. Thinking about it now, I have many regrets in life. But...

"Maybe dying here isn't so bad..."

That day, a great warrior perished after a life-or-death battle against the Ice Dragon King. A magnificent feat yet it didn't make up for his regrets.

"I have deemed you worthy, child. You will be bestowed with my blessing."

A drifting voice was heard throughout this frigid tundra.

"We shall watch your journey ahead."
