Holding Charles' lifeless body, Alfred remained unmoving, unable to look away from his friend. He had already had those close to him die before, and thought it would make it easier when it happened again, but it wasn't. Clenching Charles' hand, he looked up through the gaps of the guard rail and saw the Templars slowly being beaten by his men. Even if they were skilled, they were shaken by what had happened previously. Only someone like Gabriel could power through all he had seen using his faith alone.
Turning to face the sea, he saw what remained of his plan. The sailors desperately tried to swim away from the inferno on water whilst the Templars and Severian soldiers sank, their armour dragging them to the bottom of the Tears. With a final look at Charles, Alfred closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
