Naruto looked around, completely bewildered.
"Father... where did we end up?" he asked. This place wasn't the beach where Minato had brought Obito yesterday.
They were on the other side of the planet, in a cluster of floating islands suspended above the clouds.
"We're in the Dragon Clan," Minato replied in a calm tone, not taking his eyes off the beauty of the place.
Before he could say anything else, an enormous blue dragon approached them.
Naruto was already familiar with that presence. Minato had summoned him several times before, yet the hyperactive boy was always amazed whenever he saw the massive dragon weaving through the sky with its serpentine body as it drew closer.
It was Guren, Minato's summon.
"Minato... I sensed your presence the moment you arrived, and I see you're not alone..." the dragon said.
"Hello, old friend." Minato smiled at the enormous dragon head before him, which made him look like an ant as always. "I came to have a conversation with my son from the other world. Would it be alright if we used one of your islands?"
Guren nodded. "I don't see a problem with that. But I'd suggest going to another island. Things are a bit complicated here... My mother and her friends tend to gossip a lot on this island. They've gone out, but they'll be back soon."
The dragon gave Naruto an awkward smile. "I don't want you two to be interrupted. And knowing them, they'll complain."
Minato simply nodded. Who said female dragons didn't enjoy living their peaceful lives on this side of the world with a little gossip? After all, it was part of their society.
The two of them jumped onto Guren's head, and he immediately took flight toward another island. Naruto looked amazed by the flight.
After a few moments, Guren dropped them off on another floating island before leaving once again to take care of his own affairs.
As he flew away, Naruto continued observing the sky around him. Countless dragons soared through the area, weaving between the clouds and traveling from one island to another.
It was a truly magnificent sight.
"Amazing..." Naruto murmured, awestruck as he experienced a place like this for the first time.
"They truly are. I'm the only human in hundreds of years who managed to come here and sign a contract with the clan..." Minato replied, watching the dragons for a few moments.
Then Minato's expression turned serious. "Anyway... we need to talk about something important."
Naruto immediately noticed the change in his father's tone. "What happened?" he asked cautiously.
Minato let out a long sigh. "From what you've told me, neither you nor your father and mother ever discovered who the masked man was that attacked the village that day... Not even Kurama inside you..."
Naruto nodded when he heard that. "No."
"But your father said he possessed an ability that allowed him to materialize and dematerialize his own body. On top of that, he used a Sharingan and hid his face behind a mask that left only his right eye visible."
Naruto began to feel a chill run down his spine. "What are you trying to say?"
Minato remained silent for a few seconds before answering. "This won't be easy to hear... but I believe the person behind that mask is Obito, Obito Uchiha..."
Naruto blinked several times, staring at his father in complete disbelief. "You... Father... you can't be serious..."
"I am very serious, Naruto." Minato's firm tone made Naruto swallow hard.
"No... that can't be true." He took a few steps back. "Why? Why would Obito do something like that? Besides... didn't he die? Captain Yamato said he died during the war. He also told me that Kakashi's Sharingan belonged to him, and that Obito sacrificed himself to protect them..."
"That's exactly what we still don't know. I can't tell you what happened in your world..." Minato replied. "...But all the evidence points to Obito."
He crossed his arms before continuing. "Besides, answer me one thing before we continue this discussion, since you still don't believe my assumption."
"What is Kakashi's Sharingan ability?" Naruto took a deep breath before answering.
"From what we know... he can create a rift in space in front of whatever target he's looking at. He can pull people, objects, ninjutsu... practically anything into another dimension."
Minato nodded slowly. "Yes..." he replied.
Naruto was still completely shaken. At that moment, he remembered what Kakashi had done to Deidara's bird wing. At some point, Kakashi had also explained how his Mangekyō Sharingan worked. Naruto had never fully understood that ability.
But after so much training against Obito, he had become much more familiar with it. "Wait... it's the same..."
"Exactly," Minato said, cutting off Naruto's conclusion. "It's the same ability as Obito's..."
Naruto simply nodded, his face remaining grim. He already knew where this conversation was heading.
"The masked man could become intangible and also materialize." Minato looked directly at his son from the other world.
"Tell me... what is the other ability of Obito's right eye? The eye that was supposedly crushed in the other world."
Naruto didn't answer. His body began to tremble. He knew the Obito of that world from what he had heard, and he also knew the Obito of this universe.
Obito never seemed like someone who would do all of that...
So... what was the point of the Obito from his world killing Minato and Kushina on the night he was born? They had certainly treated him with kindness as well. Having experienced his parents through their chakra, Naruto knew they were very similar to the ones in this world. They were kind, even though there were some striking differences in other aspects.
From Yamato's words, everything indicated that it had been exactly like that. The Obito from Naruto's world had been loved by his parents...
"Listen, Naruto." Minato's voice interrupted his thoughts.
"I don't know what happened in that other world. Kushina, Hanabi, Tsuna, Mikoto, and I have already talked about all of this. We all came to the same conclusion." He took a deep breath.
"We believe Obito is responsible for a large part of the tragedies that happened in your world."
Naruto remained silent, and Minato continued.
"I don't know exactly what happened over there. I don't know why our Obito fell into darkness. But regardless... you'll have to face him." Minato closed his eyes for a moment before continuing.
"He may be an even greater threat than any other member of the Akatsuki. And, as I explained to Kushina, it's very likely that Madara Uchiha existed in your world. And if that's true... he must have found Obito and corrupted him."
"After all, the place where Obito was presumed dead in your world was very close to the hideout where Madara used to stay in ours. The connection between the two is quite obvious."
Naruto clenched his fists. It was still hard to believe. How could Obito have fallen so deeply into darkness?
Minato couldn't blame him for thinking that way. "Listen. The Obito of this world is not someone who has been corrupted. He will not become that person. Not while I'm alive, understood?"
Minato didn't want Naruto blaming the young Obito for something that happened in his own world. Minato had already made sure the boy was following a path where it would be extremely difficult for anyone to manipulate or corrupt him.
Obito had already freed himself from the love for Rin that would have caused him suffering one way or another. She wouldn't die, and he also possessed enough power that he had nothing to gain from Madara at this point. There was also the hope Minato had given him regarding his dream.
Even if someone tried to corrupt him using the worst methods imaginable, the Obito of this world had matured far too early.
Minato then placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder, as the boy remained lost in his own thoughts.
"Besides... you're the one who will face the Obito of that world. That responsibility is yours. But you've also been given a unique opportunity here." He said, making Naruto look at him curiously.
"You can learn from the Obito of this world. When the time comes to face the Obito from your universe, you'll have enough experience to deal with that difficult space-time jutsu created by his dōjutsu... Look, even your father had great difficulty fighting against it."
Naruto listened in silence. After a few moments, he simply gave a firm nod, accepting those words, even though they still hurt.
Minato smiled faintly as he realized that his future son had understood. The two remained on that floating island for a while longer, discussing what they would do from that point onward.
The following day, Obito was called to train with Naruto on the other continent. Naruto was more determined than ever to face him.
In fact, he was even more aggressive than usual, which left Obito quite confused. Right at the beginning of the fight, Minato had to step in.
With a light tap on Naruto's head, he made the boy regain his composure. "Focus. Don't let your emotions get in the way."
Naruto simply took a deep breath before nodding. "Sorry."
"Now continue."
Obito still didn't understand the reason behind that change in behavior, but he resumed the fight.
Even using all of his tricks, he continued to lose to Naruto in most of their clashes.
At the end of the training session, completely exhausted, Obito couldn't hide his curiosity. "Sensei... why did I get beaten up so badly today?" he asked.
Minato let out a small sigh. He was a little disappointed that Naruto had let his emotions get the better of him. "If I told you that, in another world, someone stole one of your eyes and now possesses your abilities... would you believe me?"
Obito's eyes widened. "What? Are you serious?" His gaze immediately shifted to Naruto.
The blond looked away, unable to meet his eyes.
Minato merely smiled. It was a lie... But a necessary one. There was no reason to make Obito bear the weight of the sins committed by another version of himself in that other world. After all, no one knew how many different realities could exist.
'Unfortunately, one version of you ended up walking a dark path.' Minato thought, but Obito didn't need to know that. He was only ten years old, and the burden of that guilt would be far too heavy.
Obito immediately clenched his fists, still thinking about someone stealing his eyes. "They stole my eyes... and my powers?" His expression was one of pure outrage.
Naruto relaxed a little when he saw that reaction. He even let out a small laugh.
"Yes... and it's possible that this person killed the Minato and Kushina from Naruto's world. Everything points to that. I told Naruto the truth and told him to learn everything he could from you—your secrets and abilities—so that he can face the person who took your only eye, your right one, in the other world." Minato explained.
Obito already knew a lot. He knew that he and Rin had died in the other world... And to think that after all of that, he was somehow connected to the deaths of Minato-sensei and Kushina-san... He boiled with rage.
Then he turned back to Naruto. "Let's fight again. I'll show you every weakness of my abilities so you'll be able to defeat that evil person."
From that moment on, their training became even more intense. Over the following weeks, Obito helped Naruto every day understand his abilities, even though it put him at a disadvantage. Naruto was also open about his own abilities, which made things even more difficult for him. After all, if the person in the other world knew about them, Naruto would already have experience fighting an enemy who also knew his abilities.
Obito even took him inside the Kamui dimension, explaining in detail how that space worked.
He also revealed every limitation of his ability, the maximum amount of time he could remain intangible, and the situations that left him vulnerable.
After observing everything carefully, Minato decided to join the explanation. "From what I've noticed, he doesn't possess one of your abilities."
The two turned their attention to the Hokage.
"The ability to absorb jutsu and store them in the other dimension before sending them back against the enemy belongs to your other eye."
"The eye that can do that is with Kakashi." Naruto nodded. "So that means he can't use that technique..."
"Exactly." Minato nodded and continued. "At the same time, the greatest weakness of the Kamui used by the masked man is Kakashi's Kamui itself. That's why, when the time comes, you'll need to come up with a plan together with him. That will be the best way to face the person who possesses the powers of that Mangekyō Sharingan."
Naruto carefully committed all of that information to memory. The three of them spent hours discussing the possibilities and developing strategies to deal with every variation of Kamui.
The training continued over the following weeks. Naruto practically monopolized Obito's time.
As the days passed, Obito gradually adapted to the blond's fighting style. Little by little, he began winning more and more matches, even when Naruto used Kurama Chakra Mode.
Kurama herself also changed her attitude toward Naruto considerably. After some time, she stopped picking fights with him inside his mind and even began talking to him during some training sessions.
Kurama herself was displeased that Madara was still causing trouble out there, and that on that night, that Obito had controlled her, since she had also overheard Minato's version speaking privately in the Dragon Clan. It could be said that the fox was furious that there was another Uchiha with her contract and the ability to control her with a three-tomoe Sharingan.
Minato also took advantage of those days to talk with Naruto several times. He shared some important information about the future but was careful not to reveal too many details about the war that was still to come.
Minato watched the battle from a distance. Beside him, Kushina also observed the training as she watched Obito face Naruto.
Minato couldn't have been more satisfied. The Naruto from that other world was returning far more prepared.
Emotionally more mature. Far more powerful. His mastery over the Nine-Tails had reached its post-war level. Naruto was a perfect jinchūriki. He had access to Kurama Chakra Modes V1 and V2, could transform into the fox's complete form, and distribute his chakra to others. He alone could turn Konoha into a military power unlike anything seen in the sixty years since its founding. He would shake the world with nearly twenty thousand shinobi cloaked in Kurama's chakra...
Now he had completely mastered Sage Mode, being able to use it together with Kurama Mode and even channel that immense chakra directly into his attacks to increase their power even further. He possessed the Adamantine Sealing Chains and an enormous variety of Water Release techniques, enough to surpass the majority of shinobi who specialized in that element. He might even have been approaching Kisame's level.
On top of that, thanks to the Mokuton cells, he was also able to use some Wood Release techniques. Naturally, he wasn't as proficient as Yamato, but his Wood Clones were far more durable and efficient than Shadow Clones.
Even though he could create a much larger number of Kage Bunshin, the Wood Clones possessed incomparably superior quality.
They could fight for much longer, use Sage Mode on a much greater scale, and were also extremely efficient at gathering natural energy.
Naruto had also learned the chakra circulation method created by Minato. Thanks to that, his consumption of natural energy had decreased drastically. He also possessed the emergency chakra storage in space that Minato had given him.
His sealing system allowed him to continuously balance normal chakra and natural energy, increasing his combat endurance even further.
Combined with the enormous reserves he already possessed, this made him an even more difficult opponent to face. Another major improvement was in sealing techniques. During those months, Naruto had learned directly from Kushina.
He could now use sealing marks in a wide variety of ways during combat and displayed a natural talent for fūinjutsu. That didn't surprise Minato. After all, both Kushina and his counterpart from that other world were extremely talented in that field.
He had also learned a great deal within the clan itself. Healing techniques were another area he now mastered, being able to use his Uzumaki chakra and Kurama's own chakra to heal himself, rivaling Tsuna while using Mokuton... since Tsuna was better than Tsunade.
Minato had demanded the absolute most from Naruto throughout the entire training period. He made the boy learn powerful jutsu capable of surprising any opponent.
He also taught him how to use his clones much more intelligently. After the battle against Kakuzu, Naruto had practically abandoned the idea of using clones to gather information, at least from what Minato had understood...
Minato completely corrected that habit. Now, Naruto spread dozens of clones across the battlefield to analyze the enemy from different angles and gather information.
Even though the information returned somewhat chaotically when the clones disappeared, the amount of data he obtained was far greater than before.
For example, he should do this if he ever had to face Pain during the Battle of Konoha. He could create clones without consuming the chakra from Sage Mode... He would easily gather information about all of the Six Paths' abilities while constantly pressuring them with clones...
Finally, Naruto now possessed a set of his own kunai marked with the Flying Thunder God seal. Minato dedicated the entire last month solely to teaching him that technique.
Every night was reserved exclusively for that training. He knew Naruto did not possess a natural talent for the Flying Thunder God Technique.
However, as the boy progressed in fūinjutsu and gained a deeper understanding of the structure of sealing marks, his comprehension of space began to grow rapidly.
Minato then took advantage of that progress to help him develop a greater affinity for space-time techniques, using exercises that combined Lightning Release and Wind Release for spatial manipulation.
Although he was still far from fully mastering the Flying Thunder God Technique during the first few weeks, Naruto had finally taken his first steps toward using that legendary jutsu. After one month, he had already managed to perform it, though nowhere near as quickly as his father could... Now he simply needed to refine it.
On top of all that, he had also learned countless other jutsu. During the last few days, Minato had begun training him in Earth Release and had also started teaching him some basic Fire Release techniques.
Minato hoped that, in the future, once Naruto managed to master the other chakra natures granted by the tailed beasts, such as Lava Release, Magnet Release, and Boil Release, he would begin using them more frequently.
Not just to create different variations of the Rasenshuriken. Those kekkei genkai would be extremely effective in making Naruto an even more versatile shinobi in combat.
Although, against someone like an Ōtsutsuki, that alone might not be enough. Against enemies of that level, elemental techniques by themselves were practically useless.
What would truly make the difference would be speed, strength, and space-time abilities.
Even so, until the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War—assuming it truly took place in that world—all of those new abilities would be extremely useful to Naruto.
He would have the means to face virtually any opponent. The days passed quickly.
Before any of them realized it... the fateful day had finally arrived.
The day Naruto would leave.
