A figure moved through a dark building late at night.
They walked without making a single sound, passing through rows of bookshelves and supply racks before reaching a shut door.
The figure opened it without hesitation and was blinded by a wave of light that poured in from the inside.
"You're home late. Patrols came back hours ago. They said you went for a walk unattended?"
Kenji shrugged off his coat and hung it up on the nearest coat rack.
"....I suppose I needed a moment to clear my head."
Ayuka got out of her husband's chair and allowed him to sit in it instead.
Once he was seated, she began rubbing her husband's shoulders dutifully.
"Is the stress of starting a new regime beginning to get to you?"
"...Not quite."
Kenji placed his hands over his wife's to stop her.
"Did you know that our daughter called twenty years ago, asking to come home?"
Kenji heard his wife's heart skip a beat. He felt her body tense up through her hands.
"...So you did know."
