We reached my house around four o'clock in the evening and fortunately mom was making dinner. She smiled when she saw me with Madi and served as juice in the living room. I drunk all at a goal and Madi laughed, feeling a little uncomfortable. I led her to my room so we could have our privacy and be able to concentrate on our assignment.
"Wow ! I love your room decor" she complimented, dropping her bag on the bed. I grabbed it and hanged it on one of my hangers. Madi kept on looking around my room and I didn't mind. It was good to have a friend around especially a pretty one like her. Yeah Madison was beautiful just that she didn't care about her looks. Her hair was messy and she had a low sense of fashion.
She drew the curtains and looked through the window. "Is that your neighbor?" she called out for me .
"Who ?" I asked, joining her . My heart skipped a beat when I saw him. It was the hazel eyes boy. He was shirtless and making a call as he looked through the window. I quickly bent down before he could notice me.
"Quickly draw the curtains!" I said to her. she stared at me confused but complied anyway.
"Is he your crush or something cause that dude is pretty!" she said teasingly.
"Nah we are enemies" I said wondering where that came from.
"seriously how can you be enemies with someone like him "
"well he's not my type so " I laughed.
"what's your type or are you into ladies"
"Nah I'm straight and can we start with the assignment" I said not wanting her to bring up my relationship status.
"Yeah sure" she replied and we started studying. Madison was really intelligent and really understood the assignment. she taught me to my understanding even though we cracked jokes in between. For the first time in my life I understood algebra and could find x . Mom called us downstairs for dinner and luckily enough, we were done with our work.
Dinner was extraordinary, mom had threw a feast and I wondered how only the three of us could finish the meal.
"Wow pineapple ..you gave your best shot today!" I teased , glancing through the food. There were chicken, beef, braised rice and some veggies.
"Make yourself comfortable Madi" mom said to her ignoring me. I was about to sit down when the door bell rung.
"Are you expecting someone!" I called out. She had gone back to the kitchen to bring extra plates.
"Yeah .. can you see get them in for me " she replied.
"No wonder you threw a feast" I said and marched towards the front door.
"Hi !" he greeted and I stood there speechless. He was the hazel eyes boy and beside him was his dark friend.
"Hello" I responded nervously, hoping he wouldn't recognize me.
"Ermm I'm Ivan and this is Eric, Cindy invited us over for dinner" he said and I felt relieved. Maybe he didn't recognize me but why do I feel bad about it at the same time.
"okay " I replied and led them inside. I wonder why mom didn't tell me she was inviting them for dinner , if she did I wouldn't have been in this mess in the first place besides I wasn't in my best attire . I was in pyjamas and a crop top. "Gosh! " I felt so embarrassed.
"Hi Ivan ..you came!" mom said excitedly and he nodded politely. She offered them a seat , Ivan facing me and Eric facing Madi. Mom started serving and I lowered my head not wanting to look at them.
"Well this is my daughter Amara..Amara meet Ivan and his friend.." she broke the silence.
"I'm Eric" he replied and mom smiled.
"Nice meeting you Amara " Ivan smirked and I knew I was in trouble. There was no way he wouldn't remember after hearing my name.
"Are you the girl from the party?" Eric asked and they all stared at me.
"What party" I shifted uncomfortably and Ivan coughed which I knew was intentional.
"Well the name and your eyes looks like hers " he replied.
"We just moved in and she hasn't been out" mom defended.
"I think so too " Ivan said sarcastically.
"Where do you live Madi?" mom asked . She has been quiet the whole time busily enjoying her meal.
"I think my house is 5 blocks from here" she laughed.
"Really ?" I looked at her.
"Yeah so you don't have to worry about driving me..we can walk back home" she replied .
"Are you in high school?" Ivan asked staring at me.
"Yeah I'm in senior year.. what about you?"
"Waiting for college admissions" he replied wiping his mouth.
"which college did you apply for?" mom asked
"New York University"
"what about you Eric?"
"same " he laughed.
"You must be really good friends" Madison said
"We can also apply for New York University.. what do you think Amara?" She said and mom and Ivan looked at me.
"well ..I don't think so " I blurted.
"she might not meet their qualifications!" mom laughed.
"mom!" I said feeling embarrassed.
"Are you referring to her grades?" Ivan asked and I rolled my eyes. I was really pissed, why should she bring about my academic performance in front of strangers.
"Yeah ..do you think you can tutor her for me..I really want her to go to the best college" mom said to my surprise.
"I can help" Madison said.
"I will!" Ivan responded to my surprise.
"And who said I needed a tutor..I'm okay " I took my plate, excused myself and walked to the kitchen. This was the worst dinner of my life. I calmed down and came back to the living room after changing into a proper attire. Eric and Ivan were still around including Madi. It was six o'clock and I asked Madi if we could leave, not making eye contact with the rest.
"Yeah .. Thanks Cindy , I felt welcomed.. bye Ivan..bye Eric" she said as I waited impatiently for her.
"We will also take our leave " Ivan said and Eric nodded. Eric didn't speak much but he kept staring at me which I found annoying.
"It was nice having you" mom replied and saw us off at the gate. Madison and Eric were talking so I gave them a little space. I leaned against the wall and placed my airpods in my ears trying to entertain myself. Ivan approached me and took off my airpods.
"I finally found you ..Amara!" he said .
"I knew you've recognized me" I said.
"I actually thought our path were never crossing but surprisingly you live next door" he smirked.
"Does it bother you? " I asked.
"Why would it .. and I'm going to pay you back okay so don't pester me"
"I never asked you to pay me back " he replied proudly.
"Thank you then that means I don't owe you" I smiled.
"You have to pay me back but I don't want money"
"what do you want" I asked.
"You.."
"Me?" I asked confused.
"Not what you are thinking though.. allow me to teach you " he said.
"I'm okay I don't need a tutor and why do you insist on tutoring me ..do you like me" I said foolishly and he laughed.
"He doesn't..I do!" Eric interrupted placing his arm around me .
"We should get going buddy.. think about the offer Amara" Ivan said looking directly into my eyes. He was really handsome and there was no doubt about that.
"It will never be a yes" I glared at him, held Madison's hand and walked towards her house.
