Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

THE ACADEMY

2022, PRESENT DAY

Elise POV

That very day, something in every one of us that was in that lab changed forever.

My ears hurt so much.

Why are the lights so bright in here?

"Please, can someone turn down the lights?"

Slowly, my eyes begin to adjust to the brightness of the room. I try to sit up but my limbs feel sore.

Where am I? What is this place? Where is everyone? This doesn't look like the chemistry lab or anywhere I recognize.

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

A lady in a white dress came up to me looking surprised,

"Finally, you are alive! You are the last one among those who were in that explosion to wake up."

Taking my time, I surveyed my surroundings. Plain glossy white walls, weird-looking clothes, and an IV attached to my wrist.

I am in a hospital.

But how long have I been out?

"Four years. You have been out for four years and a few months. So many things have changed since the accident. When you feel strong enough, I would have had a bath and some clothes set for you."

Wait?! Four years!!! How am I not dead by now? The explosion! She said other people survived too. But wait, how did she know I asked for how long I was out?

I thought for a while of every likelihood of survival from the explosion.

A sharp pain flooded my head.

Feeling lightheaded from all the thinking, I stood up and found my way to the bathroom in my hospital room. Just as the nurse said, I found a bath made for me and some clothes. I had my bath which relieved all my tension. That was such a soothing bath.

Turning turned towards the mirror, I gasped in shock.

"Oh my God... who?..."

What happened to my eyes? My hair, why is it this colour?

I remember vividly that I had hazel eyes and brown short hair. Who is this person with blue eyes and long grey hair staring back at me? My body feels different, taller?

Is that me? Am I still unconscious? Did they dye it? At least, it's not white.

My hands reached up intuitively, patting my face and running through my hair.

It looks quite natural. Definitely didn't dye it.

After staring for what seemed like forever, I put on the clothes set out for me, a black cashmere cardigan with a strange logo on it and fitted black track pants.

Hmm, All black, just how I love it. At least it's my style. And it fits. It's quite chilly in this room

Right on time, the nurse walked in dressed differently than I saw her before. She wore similar track pants but an ash-coloured shirt with the same symbol on it as mine.

"I know you have a lot of questions but everything will be answered. Your friends are all okay too and you will be meeting them now."

A feeling of reassurance washed over me. Why does she look familiar?

She led me down a very long hallway till we got to a door which led to a really big field. It was so big that I couldn't even see the four corners of the field.

The nurse suddenly stopped walking,

"We are here."

Wait?! Where?!

I saw a machine that had, "Place your hand here" written on it. The nurse urged me to place my hand there. I placed my hand and the machine spoke,

"Welcome Elise Redfox, to complete your personal information, please say your name to complete the voice recognition registration."

Holy moly, am I in a sci-fi movie? Is this real? Am I still unconscious?

"Well, go on, say your name. We don't have all day"

"Elise Redfox"

"Complete"

The robotic voice responded. Yep! Most certainly still unconscious

The nurse said with a smile,

"Don't be confused. Now, let's go meet your friends."

How does she know what I am thinking about? Does she read minds or something?

As we walked through a long corridor, I could hear a conversation going on afar off.

"Guys, how are we going to explain to her? It will be too complicated to explain"

"Yes, it will be but it was explained to you too. You understood, didn't you?"

"*cough* Well, that was after he fainted"

Fits of repressed laughter echoed off the walls.

"You know he actually passed out twice"

"Hey, that was a secret I told you. You promised"

"I am sorry... but you know it's true"

I heard another round of laughter but louder this time.

The voices sounded incredibly familiar but I couldn't just lay a finger on whose it was.
