Chapter 26 - Pan and Proud, But Lonely Stil

-Blake west:

I stood there beside Zade, watching as the last traces of Kayla's perfume lingered in the air even after she'd disappeared back into the house. The sight of her kissing him still burned behind my eyes like something I wasn't meant to see, and yet, I couldn't stop replaying it. It hurt more than I wanted to admit. More than I'd ever let him know.

Still, I kept my smile up. Fragile, practiced, like a mask I'd worn far too many times.

"She's beautiful," I said softly, my voice thin but steady enough to pass as casual.

Zade turned towards me, flashing one of those carefree grins of his, the kind that made my heart betray me every single time. "Yeah? Thanks, best friend." His eyes twinkled, genuinely proud, completely oblivious to the fact he was talking to someone who'd give the world just to be in Kayla's place.

I swallowed down the knot in my throat and forced a laugh. "She looks like a model."
