At night in the bedroom, Nidia snuggled herself in Jackson's arm. She placed one of her hands on his chest as she was breathing in his scent.
Jackson felt her steady breathing and thought that she was asleep. As he was about to lift his arm so that she could sleep comfortably, she tightened her hug instinctively and asked, "Where are you going?"
"I'm staying right beside you, not going anywhere." Jackson tightened his hug and kissed her forehead.
"Jackson..." she called gently.
"Yes, I'm here," he uttered and looked at her. "Are you feeling sick? Or do you have something on your mind?"
She did not respond. After a while, she lifted her head and asked, "Are you hiding something from me?"
Jackson caressed her hair indifferently and queried, "Did you hear anything from anyone?"
Nidia recalled her promise to Rina. She corrected her position and quickly made up an excuse. "No. I saw the news and thought of Eloise. I wonder how she's doing now."
