Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 - The book

I watched out the window as the evening shower covered the windows in a misty dew.

"So what were you doing. . ."

lost in the thoughts of what went down a little bit ago I stared at the window still, suddenly I felt a sharp prod on my shoulder, I jumped and looked back at the officer sitting comfortably in front of me

"Excuse me? can you repeat that?" I say as he looked at me expectantly.

He examined me and repeated, "So what were you doing when you noticed the body?"

"uuuhhh," i muttered as I got restless, "I was unloading the evening truck with all the ingredients for tomorrow."

He continued to look at me, "how do you think that body got into the back of that trailer then?"

I shifted slightly, still confused about what I saw, but questioning my own eyes, "I'm not too sure, but I think I saw this portal thing in the sky, like the body just fell out of no where."

He looked at me, then muttered something under his breath and crossed off something from the board in his hand, He looked back up at me, "you can go, we'll reach out to you if we have any further questions."

moments later I was out in the cold dreary weather of an early April in the city, I looked up into the sky. A single thought crossed my mind as I stared at the clouds rolling over the setting Sun.

I was lost in thought for a while as I walked down the now empty streets of the city. It was only when I looked around and realized I was at the scene where the man had fallen out of the sky that I stopped walking.

I among the bleakness of the walls of the alley I noticed an old leather book, directly where the man had fell. How was it that the book was still there? Why didn't the police take it?

These questions crowded my mind as I walked over and picked up the book. I opened it, and suddenly I was in a off-white room, bland with no distinct features but a simple bed with white sheets, an old nightstand, a wooden desk, a bookshelf, and a set of twin oak doors, probably a closet.

I stood for a moment before attempting to take a step. Suddenly I whipped back to the decrepit alley.

I blinked a few times, then looked down at the book which now felt hot to the touch.

"What was that…" I thought to myself as I quickly looked around in fear of another person watching. I then stuffed the book into my shirt and ran to my apartment 8 blocks away.

When I got home I quickly kicked off my shoes and ran to the couch where I sat down and cracked open the book again. This time, like a wave of a fresh breeze, the scene of the room came back to me.

I looked around the room and noticed a man lying there. His face was blurred as I watched him stand up and look around the room in shock. Then he suddenly walked towards me only to then walk through me as though I was a ghost.

I turned as the man reached a door which seemed to have symbols aligning the entirety of the frame, he opened it. I couldn't see what was beyond the door but as the man stepped through it, he fell.

A few moments later I turned back around to see the man appear in the bed once again. He walked towards the door and seemed to examine it as he opened the door once again and stepped through it, disappearing from my view in an instant. Time seemed to have passed as he suddenly reappeared in the bed, this time visibly shaken.

I watched him quickly shoot up, walk to the door, then collapse on his knees as he read the words above the door handle. The room started to disintegrate around us as he reached up and grasped the door handle, he pushed it and threw himself out of the room.

I was thrust back into the real world again as I shot up on the couch. I looked down at the leather bound book which suddenly flipped to a page by itself.

words written in a wine red ink wrote in an eloquent style, do you wish to give it a try?
