Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 [Edited]

------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Narrator P.O.V)

Preston wanted to follow Clarke to see where the river was.

Rivers were a source of food, evidenced by the massive man-eating serpents which could mean fish and a source of fresh and mostly clean water.

According to the series, the river was a few hours away from the dropship.

And the exact way would need to be landmarked to be sure he wasn't going on the wrong path.

Preston was currently trailing the group that was sent to retrieve food from Mt.Weather.

Close enough to sense their emotions, which was far enough so that they wouldn't notice that they were being followed.

As landmarks, the reincarnated mam decided to use his blood. He had no knives nor stones or any other material.

Besides he had a very strong regeneration ability, so why not make use of it?

He went through the field of calming plants and picked some up.

They were called poison sumac if he recalled correctly.

If they were cooked into some kind of tea, they could potentially work as an anaesthetic or some kind of knockout potion.

'It could prove useful for Jasper,' Preston thought.

He took off his t-shirt and turned it into a makeshift bag to carry the flowers.

Quickly finishing picking the plants, he resumed stalking the squad.

After walking for another minute or two, he picked up new sentiments, relief and the feeling of filling his stomach after starving for quite a while.

The emotions of the members of the bunch led by Clarke and the creature's emotions suddenly spiked.

The search party's feelings were a mixture of shock and disgust, and the creature's sentiments were mostly shock and fear.

The poor animal or at least that is what our main character assumed it was, ran away in fear of being hunted by predators.

After trailing them for another few hours, they arrived at the river.

It was a beautiful sight, for him at least. Since the view reminded him of the river next to his forge, back home.

That and the other beautiful sites he would often see when hunting.

There were a lot of activities that he could do in a village next to a forest after all.

All that brought tears to his face.

He never really thought about it that hard, the first years of his current life were ruined by his shitty father, he got imprisoned for twelve and a half years during which he had to think about what bonus attributes God had given him and train himself.

But now seeing this nostalgic memory, it was like reality told him to sit down and contemplate his life.

And it made him think, would he ever see his family again?

'Wait no that's such a dumb question,' he scolded himself.

'That's not feasible,' he acknowledged sadly.

He wanted to cry, but now wasn't the time and he knew it.

The little group had already left after the water snake's attack on Octavia.

(Preston's P.O.V)

I decided to bait it, the water serpent I mean, with blood to see if it would attack me.

There it is, it's attracted to the smell of blood.

Wait can it smell blood?

Regardless, the massive beast charged at the red patch in the water.

I had to be careful, I had decided to lure it to higher ground to allow myself more terrain advantage and the capacity to breathe.

Couldn't go too high though, otherwise, the beast would simply realise its prey was out of its reach and turn back which wasn't the goal here.

Honestly, the only reason I'm allowing myself to do this is because of my regenerative capabilities.

I stepped into the water and prepared myself.

I concentrated on the serpent's emotions and intent.

For a moment, I was listening to the creatures feeling and the next I knew what it would attack.

My legs.

It made sense, the serpent had a strong bite force, but it wasn't strong enough to kill his prey. So it would have an easier time just dragging me down to a place where it would be the most dominant, which would be the deeper parts of the river, and kill me by drowning me.

I quickly caught the snake's maw and lifted it out of the water.

It struggled against my grip but I was the stronger one, especially in an on-land conflict

Finally, after a few minutes, it started getting weaker, probably suffering from being out of the water for too long.

I didn't even need to accelerate its death by choking it since being asphyxiated by the air was the same anyways.

Why put in the extra struggle?

After the man-eating snake died, I felt exhausted.

I recovered rather quickly though, regeneration and all.

Putting my kill on my back, I walked all the way to camp.

I passed the clearing where the tombs were located to avoid prying eyes.

It was time to get this baby prepared as the new inhabitants of Earth's next meal
