Synopsis
Lin Wei, a quiet young man struggling to survive in a bustling Beijing siheyuan during the 1960s, awakens one day with a mysterious system— Heaven Rewards Hard Work— a supernatural cheat that amplifies his learning speed, intuition, and skill growth every time he works diligently. But the system doesn't give power for free; it rewards only sweat, danger, and genuine effort. Raised in poverty and surrounded by nosy neighbors, jealous rivals, and constant shortages, Lin Wei enters the city’s Construction Design Bureau as the lowest apprentice. With each blueprint he studies and each late-night drafting session he completes, the system sharpens his mind. Soon, he can spot structural faults by hearing the faintest tremor, calculate load-bearing points instantly, and foresee collapses others miss. His growing talent catches attention, admiration from seniors, suspicion from colleagues, jealousy from peers, fear from bureaucrats. Among them is Zhou Feng, the bureau’s gifted golden boy—ambitious, proud, and suddenly threatened by Lin Wei’s meteoric rise. Their rivalry sparks immediately, but crisis forces cooperation, forging a reluctant camaraderie built on mutual respect. Meanwhile, in the Siheyuan, gentle and practical Liu Fang watches Lin Wei struggle day after day. She hides her worry beneath household chores and shy smiles, slowly forming a quiet bond with him—unspoken but unmistakably warm. As Lin Wei saves workers from collapsing trenches, exposes dangerous faults, and survives political storms within the bureau, rumors swirl: Is he a prodigy? A miracle worker? Or a threat to the established order? The more he excels, the more enemies he unknowingly creates—men who see him as a disruption, a danger, or a tool to manipulate. Between workplace sabotage, courtyard drama, and the looming political tides of the era, Lin Wei realizes: Hard work may earn heaven’s rewards but it also attracts earthly danger. To protect his future, his career, and the people he cares about, he must grow stronger not only in talent, but in will, courage, and wisdom. The path ahead is treacherous. The stakes rise with each chapter. And every step forward earns him both glory… and new enemies.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 — Snow, Sweat, and Secrets

Winter clung stubbornly to the old siheyuan, leaving frost on its grey bricks and a chill in every corner of the courtyard. The narrow alley outside echoed with the clatter of bicycle bells and the shouts of peddlers, but inside, only the sound of sweeping could be heard.

Lin Wei swept slowly, methodically, as if controlling every grain of snow with intention. His hands were red from the cold, but his movement was steady.

"Boy, don't freeze your fingers off."Old Madam Chen's voice cracked like kindling from her doorstep.

Lin Wei straightened and bowed slightly."It's fine, Grandma Chen. I'm almost done."

She harrumphed but her eyes softened. "Come in for some hot water when you're finished."

"Yes, Grandma."

She disappeared back into the house, muttering that orphans these days didn't know how to rest.

But Lin Wei wasn't just working.

He was activating the system.

The faint golden glow no one else could see shimmered faintly around his hands.

Warmth surged through his limbs. When he straightened, his back no longer ached. His arms felt stronger, steadier.

It was a quiet miracle—one earned, not freely given.

Life Between the Courtyard Walls

The siheyuan was loud in all the familiar ways. Auntie Zhang argued with her husband about cabbage prices. Uncle Luo performed his daily ritual of pretending he didn't feed stray cats. Children ran around holding icy mantou like treasures.

And through it all, Lin Wei moved like a shadow—helping here, fixing there, quietly becoming indispensable.

But not everyone was appreciative.

Liu Fang, daughter of the east wing, stood with arms crossed as she watched him carry buckets of coal.

"You'll break your back one day," she said, smirking. "All that work, and you're still poor."

Lin Wei didn't reply. He simply bowed his head, letting her mockery slide off him like melting snow.

What she didn't know was that every bucket he lifted strengthened his muscles tenfold. Every time he bit his tongue instead of snapping back, the system rewarded his patience.

Hidden in silence, he grew.
