Chapter 19 - Investigation ©

She squatted as she tried catching her breath and David simply stood before her. Nous's training was having an effect indeed.

"I thought you said, you didn't like following your father anyway" David asked as he too squatted beside her

"He's supposed to buy me a new phone today"

"Ah.. I should have expected that.. Wait, then whose phone is that you were using?"

"His own, the man has three of the latest phones but only uses them for messaging and browsing"

"As if you'll use it for anything else" David retorted only to get nudged by her.

"By the way, what are you here for? I have never seen you in a senator before… Wait you don't even wear formal attires at all" Fadila stated as she stood up

"I came to get approval for Land so I can starting building my house" David replied with a shrug as a weird smile appeared on his face

"House?... Since when? Wait don't tell me you have started yahoo too" Fadila asked as her expression turned serious

"Which yahoo boy have you ever seen cash out in just 3 weeks?" David retorted as the smile vanished

"Victor, Andrew, Onyeka, Cassandra, should I continue?" Fadila listed.

As soon as the names started dropping, David immediately knew he was done for. These were distant people, they were all course mates.

In the class of over a hundred students, they stood out simply because of how much money they made from a 'client' and in relatively short times too.

"Okay that was a stupid question, I made my money from games, it sold over a hundred million copies" David said as he pulled out a phone from his pocket.

It was a hard light construct since he didn't actually have a phone at the moment. Using it he showed her the metrics

Above within the building, the two men could be seen hurdles by the window as they paired down.

"It's weird how much they know each other" The General said

"What do you know about that boy?" the man asked as soon as he turned around

"Shouldn't I be the person asking you" The Minister said before handing over the profile they had compiled on David

The man looked through it carefully but the frown on his face remained. He didn't know what it was but things felt wrong.

"Abi?... About the thing the boy was offering you, do you think he can back it up?" the general asked

"On paper, most definitely, the boy has almost no employees or even a headquarters yet and he is already a billionaire, I think he's a safe bet" the man replied without thinking much

"Rather than questioning like this, how about you ask your pikin she seems to know him better" he continued

(A/N: Pikin means child)

While the two remained watching as they discussed their own affairs. David still remained defending himself as she questioned him nonstop.

"Let me get this straight, you made a game that sold over a hundred million copies and your first thought was to come here for permits to build a mansion… Are you stupid? Chai this boy would kill me" Fadila complained

She didn't even know where to start from. Was he not thinking of his future? Yes, that was guaranteed to be over a billion naira at the very least but this wasn't sustainable.

That money could be put invested into something more tangible than building a mansion, that would grow the money.

"Smallie… It's 1.5 billion dollars not naira, 684 billion naira, that's Dangote level money" David said

Seeing the look of realization on her face, David felt a sense of pride come upon him. It was an amount that even if he was spending a million naira per day, he would not finish the money for over a thousand years.

(A/N: 1874 years to be exact)

Even with 10% of that as his personal expense, he had barely dented the money so he was justified. The purchase of the mountain and development of it and surrounding area cost no more than 5.5 billion naira which was nothing compared to the 68.4 billion naira personal spending budget he had set out.

"Ehn?... You should have told me na, so this is why people dey always fight to be rich man wife, Ehn my love" Fadila said as she immediately wrapped her arms around his neck

Seeing this the two immediately burst into laughter as they separated from each other. However David could feel some sort of tinge of pain in her heart even as he laughed. They said that this was the epitome of being friendzoned, he liked her but he was afraid of ruining their friendship.

"Anyway, are you waiting for him or should we go and find something to eat?" David asked as he quickly got over it

"There's a canteen at the back here… or let's actually go out for food" She said after a brief pause mid sentence as though she just remembered something halfway.

"Let's be going please" David said as he quickly held her and they began walking in the direction she pointed out initially

"Like it's just weird, I'm not used to you having money" she replied as David nearly fell over.

"Okay, 1-0, you have won this time, I'll catch you next time" David said accepting the insult

Ibrahim followed quietly in the background until they all arrived at the so-called canteen. David should have expected it but he had been too occupied thinking about her.

"Why was I expecting some regular cafeteria or something?" David muttered as soon as he saw the building.

It was a full blown restaurant on its own and looking at Fadila who kept calling it a canteen, her status quickly returned back in his mind.

She was the grand-daughter of one of the highest authorities in the country and this is the office of the FCT Minister, he should have expected it to be like this.

They entered the 'canteen' as David immediately ordered for everyone before they all sat down with Ibrahim taking a different table to himself.

As they waited, Fadila used the chance to drill him of almost any question that came to her mind and David had to flawlessly mix lies with the truth to answer.

….

While the two discussed, elsewhere a man could be seen in an office. The office was well decorated and looked grand, forcing one to recognize the importance of the one within the office.

The hum of the air conditioner continued even as the man continued to flip through document after document. The desktop on his desk was lit up as he stared at it occasionally.

"Hello, can you send Mr Stan in?" he said into the intercom seated on his desk.

"Okay sir" A female voice replied before the small call was dropped

Soon after a knock was heard as a young man who seemed to be in his late twenties entered the room. The man stood at a height that forced him to consider the doorframe as he entered, yet had a potent physique that seemed to match his height well.

"Sir, you called?" Stan said as he bowed in respect

"Yes, I was reading the Adegoke case and I wanted to hear your side of the story as the investigator, I hear they found no body, is that true?"

"Alhaji. the scene was weird and after we even got the footage of the scene, it was even weirder" Stan said as he scratched his head

This was a case that he truly didn't know what to make of, he had been in this job for over 15 years now and yet he couldn't solve this one at all.

"Every case is weird until we piece it together, were there no witnesses that you could get a hold off from the scene"

"We did find two people but they just said that it was weird… One moment the boy was there and next he wasn't, even if he seemed to be the one winning" Stan explained

"Huh? So the boy simply vanished, is what you are saying?"

"Maybe, I don't know… The footage" Stan said as he pulled it up on his phone

The video showed an open restaurant with few people around as two men took their seats. Not long after, they saw a figure rushing towards them just before everything seemed to change.

The men were still on their seats but the figure who had rushed in was nowhere to be seen, nothing related to him was left on the scene.

However the man who seemed to be the target of attack by the figure could be seen seated again but with an expression that clearly said he had witnessed something.

"Have you investigated that guy?" the man asked

"His file is on your table but he's clean sir" Stan answered

"That's weird" The man said as he quickly searched his table before he found a file as Stan had pointed out.

It was a complete profile on the man that seemed to be the target of the attack, David Nnaji.

"Sir that's not even the weird part, when we arrived at the scene we could feel a weird aura in the area that this happened, it was as though we were standing before the heavens themselves.. Some of the weaker ones even collapsed"

"Hmm that means the Adegoke boy got into a situation he couldn't handle then"

"I think so" Stan replied

He had a feeling that the man was misunderstanding what he meant however there was no way to actually describe it better so he let it be.
