Confusion struck against the wind cone. For a moment, the wind cone shone brilliantly, as if on the verge of collapsing. Confusion and the raging winds intertwined, forming a murky mass filled with a chilling aura.
"Confusion wasn't able to shatter the wind cone." From the spectator stands, the mature-looking young man overseeing this exhibition match let out a faint smile. The structure of the wind cone seemed quite unusual. Despite being crushed under the force of Diantha's Gardevoir's Confusion, it had yet to collapse. The scene genuinely surprised him.
The wind cone, surrounded with Confusion, not only protected Beautifly but also became its strongest weapon. It struck head-on at Gardevoir, blasting it backward.
"Gard~evoir!"
The wind cone, surrounded with Confusion and laced with powdery scales, drilled into Gardevoir's body with tremendous effect. Gardevoir instantly cried out in pain, and was flung away, crashing heavily to the ground.
"Incredible. To stack wind to such an extent should place a huge burden on Beautifly's body, yet your Beautifly looks completely at ease." Diantha was astonished as Gardevoir once again rose to its feet.
If that's the case—
Catching the blazing determination in Terrance's eyes, Diantha smiled inwardly. With a gentle tug at her Mega Necklace, Gardevoir's Mega Stone and Diantha's Key Stone began to shake. In the next instant, golden radiance burst forth from the Key Stone, weaving into chains of light that merged with the blue waves emanating from the Mega Stone. The two auras fused and then transformed into a dazzling white, symbolizing Gardevoir's completion of Mega Evolution.
The earlier setback had already convinced Diantha to reveal her true strength.
After all, this was a public match, with countless spectators watching. Ensuring her dominance was the most important thing.
Facing Beautifly, shrouded in its awe-inspiring Wind Domain, Diantha couldn't help but admire how exceptionally it had been trained.
"However… checkmate."
As Diantha made a hand signal, Terrance's expression changed. Instantly, three more Gardevoir appeared on the field, and with the four Gardevoir standing at the four corners, they surrounded the battlefield.
Each Gardevoir glowed with the blue light of Confusion, radiating solemn majesty. As the four Gardevoirs acted in concert, the battlefield itself underwent a strange transformation, as though it had been encased within layers upon layers of Light Screen.
"Beautifly, break Double Team and also destroy the Light Screen!" Terrance commanded quickly, realizing the danger.
But just as Terrance gave the order, the four Gardevoirs began to sing, releasing special pink sound waves. Resonating together, these waves spread rapidly throughout the Light Screen's enclosed space.
The wind blades Beautifly hurled were, unsurprisingly, destroyed by the pink sound waves. As time passed, the sound waves continuously swirled within the enclosed space, eventually transforming into a massive torrent that swiftly engulfed Beautifly.
The Wind Domain that even Gardevoir's Confusion couldn't overcome shattered immediately, causing Beautifly to lose the ability to battle.
"Beautifly is unable to battle. Gardevoir wins. The victor is Diantha." As the referee declared the result, countless spectators rose to their feet, offering thunderous applause to Diantha.
At the same time, Turner, the Battle Chateau's butler, spoke: "Young master, are you satisfied with this match?"
"It was decent enough. Forcing out Gardevoir's Mega Evolution and displaying a combo move incorporating five different elements. This exhibition match may well have been the most spectacular one yet."
The mature-looking young man waved his hand as he spoke.
When Terrance recalled Beautifly, he was still immersed in the combo move that Diantha had just displayed, utterly shocked in his heart.
First, Gardevoir split into three tangible clones surrounded by Confusion. Then, with the Pixilate Ability, they collectively transformed the Normal-type move "Round" into a Fairy-type attack. Next, they utilized the mastery of Light Screen's altered properties to reflect and amplify "Round," pushing the move's power to its peak. Finally, all of it was skillfully fused into a single force. This combo move wove together the use of Ability and four moves at a top-tier level of mastery, producing an attack so overwhelming it shattered Terrance's Beautifly's Wind Domain instantly. Even with the Source of Stamina supporting it, Beautifly could not withstand the blow.
"Thank you for the guidance." After recalling Beautifly, Terrance stepped forward and shook hands with Diantha. Experiencing a Champion's strength firsthand, he realized the title was well and truly deserved.
As the Champion who stood above the Elite Four, her strength was far beyond that of an ordinary Top Trainer.
That attack just now—not only Beautifly, but even Mega Gallade, Mismagius, or Castform would have stood no chance of taking it head-on.
"The power of that attack was even stronger than Mega Altaria's Giga Impact." Terrance compared silently in his heart.
"It was a truly spectacular battle."
While Terrance's thoughts were racing, Diantha also stepped forward and performed the final closing ceremony with Terrance, marking the perfect end of this exhibition match.
In terms of the application of Abilities and moves, Terrance's Pokémon were considerably less refined compared to his opponent. It took Terrance a moment to fully comprehend the move variation just now. Had it been another Trainer, even at the level of a Conference Champion, they would likely have been completely bewildered by the combo move performed by Gardevoir.
As he left the stage and spoke with the event organizers, Terrance realized that the greatest value of this battle was not the appearance fee, but the useful techniques he had learned from facing Diantha. Such experience mattered far more to him than the 500,000 fee.
"Mr. Terrance, won't you stay as a guest for a while?" the mature-looking young man invited. "I have a castle in Camphrier Town that currently sits empty."
Terrance declined with a smile and shook his head. He already had plans. Before reuniting with Altaria, he needed to continue building his team battle system—this included searching for and capturing new Pokémon.
Of the three-month period set for Altaria's training, one month remained. Terrance had no intention of leaving the Kalos region during this time.
For creating his team battle system, Terrance already had several tactics in mind. What he needed now was to strengthen his Pokémon around these tactics, while expanding the system's flexibility without undermining its core tactics.
For Terrance, who currently had nothing else to do, this matter was one of the few things that genuinely excited him. It gave him both the enjoyment of the training process and the chance to ascend into a higher level as a Trainer, something he could not pass up.
Three days later, Terrance crossed through Cyllage City and arrived at Geosenge Town. Located on the edge of Kalos, Geosenge Town was a very small settlement, famous for its jagged rocks and surrounded by several mountains. Terrance had come here mainly because it is said that a Fairy-type Pokémon colony lived nearby, and he wanted to see if there were any suitable Pokémon for him to capture.
