Chapter 705 - Passing the Torch

After Wikstrom finished handling matters on his side, he also met with Terrance.

Although Terrance hadn't contributed much during this mission, he had still put in some effort, so the Kalos League made sure to thank him.

With Wikstrom and the mayor of Geosenge Town personally stepping in, they gifted Terrance a set of high-quality evolutionary stones as a token of gratitude, which Terrance gladly accepted.

Though these evolutionary stones weren't of quite the same quality as the Ice Stone Steven had given him, they were still first-class. Even if Terrance couldn't use them right away, it was fine to keep them in Fallarbor Gym.

The chain reaction triggered by the recovery of the airship and the follow-up handling were not matters Terrance wished to concern himself with. After this incident, he asked the Carbink if they would like to leave with him.

If they continued living here, accidents would inevitably occur sooner or later. Terrance, with his vast resources and influence, would have no trouble taking care of a few more Carbink. However, when faced with his invitation, the Carbink collectively refused.

They said they did not want to leave this place. Terrance wasn't disappointed by this. After once more instructing them on how to train themselves in the future, he departed from Geosenge Town.

After leaving Geosenge Town, in order to train Carbink, Ralts, Vulpix, and Larvitar, Terrance began walking toward the ruins where the statue of the maiden was located.

Aside from his new Pokémon, his Beautifly, Gallade, Mismagius, Castform, and Arcanine were also making progress. At the level of Elite Four, their combat strength was not at the bottom tier. Thanks to their unique style of training, they could secure a place among Elite Four level, making them quite outstanding in terms of strength.

As Terrance continued to train them, they gradually established a firm footing at the Elite Four level, with their strength becoming increasingly stable. However, if they wanted to achieve a major breakthrough in power, it would require either a great stroke of fortune or years of steady accumulation.

For now, beyond their training, they also carried the responsibility of mentoring the younger Pokémon.

Beautifly, Gallade, Mismagius, Castform, and Arcanine had reached their current level of power only through Terrance's immense dedication. Along with Altaria, these six Pokémon could be considered the crystallization of Terrance's breeder skills. In a sense, they were the embodiment of his breeder ability.

Therefore, when Terrance set out to raise Pokémon like Larvitar, Vulpix, Ralts, and Carbink, while his methods included innovation and tailoring their training paths to their innate traits, the overall approach still carried the imprint of his first six main Pokémon.

Take Larvitar for example. Though it possessed the special ability of shifting between light and heavy mode, as it grew, it would still need to master the use of Sandstorm in order to truly live up to the title of Desert Monarch. To learn Sandstorm, it naturally relied on Terrance's Sandstorm secret technique derived from the Weather Institute's research, combined with his own inspiration and experience.

Vulpix's Hail secret technique and Larvitar's Sandstorm secret technique were not only the result of Terrance's efforts but also drew upon Castform's accumulated experiences and Beautifly's mastery of air current technique. So, their rapid growth, to a large extent, was built upon the foundation laid by seniors like Castform and Beautifly.

The richer a Trainer's experience, the stronger their Pokémon. This statement was absolutely true. Now, when Terrance raised new Pokémon, the process was nowhere near as difficult as it had been in the past.

Vulpix was the first to follow Castform and Beautifly in learning how to use the Hail move, while Larvitar was still continuing with its basic training.

Terrance wanted Larvitar to keep building the foundation for its evolution. With plenty of nutritious minerals prepared for it, evolving in the most perfect state was only a matter of time. Terrance planned to wait until Larvitar evolved into Pupitar before letting it follow in Vulpix's footsteps, learning Sandstorm from Castform and Beautifly.

"When you evolve into Pupitar, even though your entire body will be encased in a rock-hard shell, it won't affect your strength or speed," Terrance said.

"And, you'll also gain a special ability."

As Larvitar had just finished training, Terrance and the Rotom Pokédex came over to its side.

"That's right, Roto!!" Rotom Pokédex echoed Terrance, then switched into its introduction mode: "Pupitar, the Hard Shell Pokémon. It compresses gas it produces within its body and forcefully expels it to launch itself in flight. Even colliding with steel won't harm it."

As the Rotom Pokédex explained, Larvitar seemed to realize something. After evolving, it would be better able to utilize gases, and with Beautifly's guidance on control and Castform's training in Sandstorm, the efficiency would likely be even more significant.

"The Pupitar stage is one of accumulation. Your main task then will be to train in Sandstorm and absorb nutrients. Battles themselves won't be the priority."

"If you master the power of Sandstorm as a Pupitar, then after evolution, you'll undergo a complete transformation and gain terrifying destructive strength," Terrance continued.

As a Senior Breeder and a Trainer who has fought evenly with the Elite Four, the Tyranitar he raised would undoubtedly be far different from those of the Trainers he had encountered before.

If the Tyranitar raised by ordinary Trainers were just for show, then Terrance intended to raise a true desert beast!

Only that would be worthy of the vast resources he had invested.

Aside from Vulpix and Larvitar, Ralts's talent once again shocked Terrance. This little one with Three No's undoubtedly had the best potential among all of Terrance's Pokémon. [TN: "Three-no girl" is a term used in the Anime, Comics, and Game' worlds, mostly by Chinese fandom, to refer to those young women who are taciturn, lack facial expressions, and whose minds are closed off and difficult to understand. Explained in chapter 691.]

Not even one of his Pokemon had talent surpassing this Ralts, whose origins were unknown and had been gifted to him by Master Victor.

Of course, talent only determined growth speed, not combat power. But rapid growth, in a sense, was strength in itself. Ralts's efficiency with Calm Mind and its rapid progress with Teleport left even Gallade ashamed. Even when Gallade trained under a waterfall, enduring physical tempering, its Calm Mind had never brought such frightening improvements in psychic power. As for its mastery of Teleport, that had been achieved through tireless effort, whereas Ralts's control improved at a staggering pace with only casual practice.

Of course, this might be partly because Ralts was still relatively weak for now, but its growth speed had left Vulpix and Larvitar envious for quite a while.

Double Team, Confusion, Teleport, and Ally Switch were the main moves Ralts trained after Calm Mind.

At present, Ralts still had tremendous potential. Its psychic power could keep increasing rapidly through training, which meant that even without evolving, it could continue to grow rapidly. This left Terrance puzzled for quite a while, could Ralts really achieve psychic power on par with a Gardevoir while still in its current form?

If so, just how terrifying would its psychic power and computation power be once it evolved into Gardevoir?

"I'm really curious about this little one's origins…" Terrance thought in amazement, watching Ralts arrange its Double Team clones like a chess player.

As the three Pokémon steadily grew stronger, the newly captured Carbink, sensing the strength of its new companions, was naturally eager to gain power as well. For now, it was still far too weak; any one of Terrance's Pokémon could easily defeat it. But because of the wager it had made with Terrance earlier, Carbink had come to trust Terrance's ability as a breeder deeply. Every training task Terrance set for it, it managed to complete perfectly.
