Chapter 800 - Powerful Kirlia

Location: Saffron Gym battlefield.

Battle participants: Terrance, Sabrina.

Battle rules: 2 vs 2.

Referee: Sam.

Once everything was ready, Mr. Sam led Terrance to the Saffron Gym's battlefield, where Sabrina was already waiting.

Mr. Sam volunteered to be the referee, and neither Terrance nor Sabrina had any objections. Very soon, as Terrance met Sabrina's gaze, he became serious.

This was his first time battling a psychic expert, so he had to be extremely careful. Moreover, with Sabrina's level of psychic power, his Kirlia and Gallade might be greatly restricted!

"My first Pokémon will be this one." Sabrina smiled slightly, and a Haunter appeared on the battlefield, throwing Terrance a wink with its triangular white eyes.

"What an interesting guy… and not even a Psychic Type?" Terrance was taken aback and looked Haunter up and down, already having a rough idea of its origin.

"Then I'll choose Kirlia." After a moment's thought, Terrance sent out Kirlia.

Unlike Haunter's purple, ghostly wraith form, Kirlia looked like a petite girl in a green dress. Their appearances couldn't be more different.

As Kirlia appeared, Sabrina immediately began observing it, and even Mr. Sam couldn't help but watch closely. This Kirlia… gave them a very special feeling.

But as for exactly what was special about it… even Sabrina couldn't say.

Perhaps, only battle would tell!

After Mr. Sam announced the start of the battle, Sabrina and Terrance, each with their own motives, quickly began issuing commands.

In just the first round, both Pokémon disappeared from sight, making for an extremely eerie scene. Haunter had hidden itself, aiming to land a fatal blow, while Kirlia had teleported to the edge of the ceiling, overlooking the entire field.

"I remember Haunter is even more afraid of bright light than other Ghost Types." Terrance said with a smile. At the same time, Kirlia, floating in midair with Confusion, stretched out its arm, and a Light Screen formed in front of it. In the next moment, the light of Dazzling Gleam reflected off the Light Screen, scattering across the entire battlefield.

"Ugh!!" Hit by Dazzling Gleam, Haunter was forced out of the void, fleeing in a frenzy and unwilling to even open its eyes. But as Sabrina gave a soft hum, Haunter immediately returned to normal. At some point, Haunter's entire body had become wrapped in a layer of Confusion, as if wearing a Confusion shield that blocked the light's effects.

"Hau~nter!!"

No longer affected by the light, Haunter immediately began to laugh, transforming into a dark shadow that lunged toward Kirlia. At the same time, its fists gathered shadow energy; its left hand using Shadow Punch, its right hand a Shadow Ball. Protected by the Confusion shield, it seemed completely fearless, attacking recklessly.

"Kirlia's Dazzling Gleam actually can't break through the Confusion shield?" Terrance was shocked. Kirlia's Dazzling Gleam, after training with Fairy Aura, had become overwhelmingly powerful. Even a Conference Champion-level opponent would be in serious trouble, but…

This was truly interesting.

"Kirlia, Psychic." Resigned to the fact that Sabrina's psychic power was simply too strong, Terrance's eyes lit up as he focused intently on Kirlia's next move. A powerful Confusion wave erupted from Kirlia's small body!!

"Don't think you're the only ones who can use psychic power."

A blue light quickly flashed across Kirlia's crimson eyes as it generated a powerful mental pressure. In almost an instant, Psychic surged forward like a flood, slamming Haunter down and causing cracks to appear in the Confusion shield that Sabrina had cast on Haunter.

"What!"

Seeing this, Mr. Sam cried out in shock, staring in disbelief at the cracks spreading across Haunter's Confusion shield. He could tell that Sabrina was taking this battle very seriously. She had granted Haunter the strongest Confusion shield it could handle. Although, due to Haunter's type and strength, Sabrina couldn't use her full power, the shield was still incredibly formidable. Yet, he couldn't believe that such a powerful Confusion shield could actually be shattered by another Psychic-Type move.

Even Sabrina herself stared in disbelief at the slowly descending Kirlia, shocked by the sudden eruption of its powerful psychic power.

"This is just Kirlia, won't it be even stronger after evolving?" Mr. Sam exclaimed.

What Mr. Sam and Sabrina could never have imagined was that this Kirlia had already possessed the psychic power of an ordinary Gardevoir back when it was a Ralts... It is... a failed product of Team Rocket's Mewtwo experiment!

Even though it was considered a failure, as long as Kirlia inherited even a fraction of Mewtwo's potential, its talent was already beyond compare for a typical Psychic-Type Pokémon!

What's more...

"As a graceful commander, my Kirlia actually doesn't like to battle directly," Terrance said.

Kirlia preferred to act as the brain of the team, using its extraordinary computational ability to command Carbink, Pupitar, and Ninetales in battle, helping Ninetales and Altaria calculate the angles for Fairy Light and Destruction Light. But that didn't mean its own strength was lacking. In fact, Terrance knew that Kirlia's true strength was far more outrageous than any recorded data about Kirlia!

Sabrina's psychic power had the effect of stimulating the potential of Psychic-Type Pokémon. Although other psychics couldn't match Sabrina, still...

Kirlia… had received the baptism and empowerment of Confusion from two terrifying existence proficient in psychic power—Mewtwo and Mew—during its evolution! At the time, Terrance hadn't thought much of it, but as Kirlia grew, he gradually realized that empowerment and evolution was anything but ordinary.

Bang!

Shrouded in the Confusion shield, Haunter crashed to the ground, completely shattering the shield. At the same time, the Confusion Markers that flowed out of Psychic spread across the entire battlefield. Witnessing this, Mr. Sam and Sabrina were both shocked again. Just how much psychic energy did this Kirlia possess, to dare squander it so recklessly?

"Again!" Sabrina said coldly, casting a new Confusion shield onto Haunter. Terrance's expression remained calm as he surveyed the field. Every part of it was now covered with Kirlia's Confusion Markers. The field was now its chessboard. Terrance planned to try out Teleport next to see how Sabrina would counter it. After all, her real trump card surely wasn't this seemingly unimpressive, non-Psychic-Type Haunter. When the time came, Gallade would face an even tougher fight, so Terrance needed to observe Sabrina's battle style in advance.
