Chapter 281 - I Love Ganging Up on You

When the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Red-Eyes Black Dragon appeared, Rufus and Orga instinctively halted their advance. But after Sting and Rogue were sent flying, with the two dragons pursuing them, they resumed their charge.

Initially hesitant due to the intimidating presence of the dragons, they now felt it was the perfect opportunity. Calvin had already summoned two powerful creatures, and with Sting and Rogue keeping the dragons occupied, he was limited to only summoning one more. This, they believed, was their best chance to take him down.

This thought drove both Orga and Rufus as they attacked Calvin. Minerva shared their view and prepared to coordinate with their timing, intending to deliver a decisive blow to finish him off.

As Orga unleashed his dark God Slayer's Lightning and Rufus used his Memory-Make, Calvin responded by summoning yet another card. A massive golden arm with black markings appeared before him, easily sweeping away all their attacks.

Before Rufus and Orga stood another massive beast, a fierce nine-tailed fox; its sleek, smooth skin contrasted with its ominous, mysterious black markings, and its nine long tails swayed in the air, exuding overwhelming power.

This giant golden fox, known as "Kurama," was another one of Calvin's creations, inspired by manga from his previous life.

"How many summoned creatures does this guy have?!" Rufus muttered, his face filled with apprehension. The fox may not have seemed as powerful as the two dragons, but it was not something to be underestimated.

"Don't lose your nerve! No matter how strong that fox is, the three of us together can still defeat it," Minerva said dismissively. She even thought Calvin had made a strategic mistake by summoning the fox.

"Maybe he's trying to take care of Sting and Rogue first, but he forgot that with only one more summoning slot, he's more vulnerable now. Relying on that giant alone? Let's see if my Territory can tear it apart!" Minerva sneered, gathering her spatial magic. With a wave of her hand, Kurama's body exploded in several places.

Minerva's space-based magic attack seemed to do nothing but provoke Kurama. The fox turned, letting out a ferocious roar, its nine tails whipping through the air with a force that shook the ground.

Rufus quickly responded by using his Memory-Make magic to create ice pillars around Kurama, combining them with Orga's dark God Slayer's Lightning.

"Ice Lightning Sword!"

Rufus had learned not to target Calvin directly. After their brief clash earlier, he understood that they couldn't break through Calvin's formidable defences without a combined effort.

Kurama's tails struck like massive whips, effortlessly shattering the ice pillars and dispersing the dark lightning. Seeing the situation, Minerva used her spatial magic to teleport them out of harm's way.

After their initial exchange, all three realised the fox's immense physical strength. Even a casual swipe from its tails carried a force they couldn't withstand. Fortunately, its size slowed it, allowing them to evade its attacks.

In a flash, the three quickly adjusted their strategy. Avoid confrontation and strike from a distance.

As skilled mages from the same guild, their coordination was seamless. Orga's thunderous attacks rang out while Rufus launched a barrage of mixed magic from his Memory-Make. Meanwhile, Minerva focused on defence and occasionally struck back when the opportunity arose. They managed to suppress Kurama, but their attacks only dirtied its fur.

Calvin, however, didn't seem in a hurry. He calmly observed the battle, almost like testing Kurama in its first real fight. It seemed well-suited for taking on larger opponents.

Even though Kurama appeared to be at a disadvantage, Calvin remained unfazed, shifting his attention to the ongoing battle between the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Red-Eyes Black Dragon against Sting and Rogue.

That fight, too, was one-sided. Faced with Calvin's two powerful dragons, Sting and Rogue could only flee in desperation. The sheer size difference made every move from the dragons a deadly attack.

Sting, who had been confident earlier, realised his light-based dragon magic had little effect on Blue-Eyes White Dragon. The dragon's physical strength alone overwhelmed him, and its resistance to his light magic rendered his attacks futile.

Rogue wasn't faring any better. His shadow attacks barely scratched Red-Eyes Black Dragon's tough armour, leaving no significant damage.

Seeing that his dragons were handling things well, Calvin smiled, pleased with the progress. It was time to get serious and finish the fight.

After all, he had to demonstrate his strength to Princess Jade.

Princess Jade watched the battle unfold in the viewing room with mixed feelings. She could see that Kurama was struggling, but Calvin remained calm and didn't seem to be taking any action. It appeared that he truly could only summon three creatures at once.

However, Arcadios, observing alongside her, noticed something different. Calvin's greatest strength lay in his coordination with his summoned beasts. The fact that he appeared unfazed, despite Kurama's disadvantage, only showed that he was still in control.

Knowing this truth, Arcadios felt no relief. To think that these five were among the strongest in Fiore six days ago, yet Calvin was handling them with ease. This only confirmed what Princess Jade's mysterious informant had warned: Calvin's power defied all logic.

Suddenly, Calvin made his next move. Dissatisfied with the current situation, he raised his hand, holding four more cards.

"You've done well working together so far. But now, I think it's time to step things up. Be careful," he warned with a devilish grin.

Minerva and her companions watched in horror as Calvin threw all four cards, each manifesting something new.

One card ignited into blue flames, which burned fiercely before transforming into a man with a scruffy appearance and a rooster-like hairstyle.

Another card split open the air as if tearing space itself, revealing an endless abyss. From it stepped a white-clad man with a cold, disdainful expression.

A third card released a cloud of purple-black energy, quickly forming a thin figure — the Dark Magician, whom Calvin's teammates knew well but was new to the audience.

The final card brought forth the sound of galloping hooves and clashing metal. A long, black spear tipped with gold spirals emerged, followed by a knight clad in golden-white armour. Even his horse was armoured, with metallic wings allowing it to soar. Together, they radiated an imposing aura.

Marco the Phoenix, Zanpakuto Spirit, Dark Magician, and Gaia the Fierce Knight had joined the battle alongside Kurama, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Calvin's seven strongest summons were now all on the field.

"This is... impossible…" Minerva whispered, too shocked to speak further. Facing such a lineup, there was no point in continuing the fight.

Unaware of her internal turmoil, Calvin grinned confidently and declared, "I told you, didn't I? I love ganging up on people. Just one man ganging up on all of you."

Up in the stands, Makarov watched with wide-eyed delight, astonished by Calvin's power. However, seeing the younger guild members in shock, he felt the need to maintain his dignity as guild master.

"Hmph… Calvin's made some progress, I'll give him that. Though he might be focusing a bit too much on the flashy entrances of his summons…" Makarov muttered.

Standing nearby, Mavis looked at him with disdain before turning back to the screen, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
