CHAPTER START---
"Hey Master, guess what I got?!" Macao yells as he enters the guild, a bag at his side and a large glass jug in his hand.
"Oohhh!" Master Makarov's eyes widen as he looks up from the letter he'd been reading, while sitting on the bar counter. "The Rose Garden special brew?"
"Oh yeah, got the last jug as a bonus for being extra speedy with that job," Macao says as he walks over to the bar.
The entire guild cheers as Enno takes the jug and begins filling mugs.
"So, Master, what's with the letter?" Macao asks as he takes a relaxing sip of the rum.
"An old friend asked for help, I'm contemplating who I should send," Makarov says as he takes a sip of his drink, enjoying the smooth and delicious flavor.
"If it's a friend of Fairy Tail, then they deserve our absolute best," Wakaba says as he walks up for Enno to fill his glass. "But since Gildarts won't be back for a few months, let me and Macao handle it."
"No, I have another matter I need the two of you to deal with. For this one, I'll send the kids, it's about time they start doing jobs anyway," Makarov says.
"Are you sure Master?" Enno asks, leaning seductively against the bar. "Laxus sure, but Oberon has only been here for two weeks."
"At least send us with them, we'll just hang back and watch," Macao says. "We can't let the kid get hurt on his first job."
"Yeah," Wakaba agrees.
"That won't be necessary, this is a simple job," Makarov says. "Something has been bothering the animals on his farm and he wants help to scare it off, they can handle that."
"Huh, well, if you're sure," Wakaba says.
"Where are the kids anyway?" Macao asks.
"Same place they always are," Enno points to the side door which leads to the training field beside the guildhall.
A few moments later, drinks in hand, Master Makarov, Macao, and Wakaba walk through the door to the training field.
As they step through the doors the sparking of electricity reaches their ears.
A moment later Wakaba and Macao squint as dazzling golden light flashes through the area.
Adjusting to the new light, they see Laxus and Oberon standing across from each other, and between them, a steady stream of yellow Lightning Magic clashes with a continuous beam of golden Light Magic.
"Wow," Macao looks at them in amazement. "I was only gone for four days, what the hell have you been feeding these kids, Master?"
"Yeah, they're definitely not normal, huh buddy?" Wakaba asks. "Really makes me think about how long it'll take them to get ahead of us."
Makarov laughs, a joyous and proud laugh, "Laxus is my beloved grandson, part of the Fairy Tail legacy, and Oberon is one of the most talented Mages I have ever met, the sole survivor of Acnalogia attacking his village. Exactly what about that gave you the idea that they'd be normal?"
As the two Magics collide, Laxus smiles deviously at Oberon.
"You know I can do this all day, lightning is power, and I've got a lot of lightning!"
Oberon smiles right back at him, "Yeah, but lightning is all you've got!"
While keeping both hands forward and directing the beam of light at Laxus, he slides his left foot across the grass.
And a horizontal pull of gravity matching this motion pulls Laxus to the side, taking his footing and concentration with it.
"Cra---"
Before Laxus could understand what just happened, Oberon surged forward using Gravity Magic and punched at his stomach, before Laxus even hit the ground.
Laxus sees the punch at the last moment and becomes a bolt of yellow lightning, arcing around Oberon and into the grass behind him.
"---Too close," Laxus says, catching his breath as he's kneeling on the grass.
As he's ready to get up, he sees his shadow on the ground, and another shadow becoming larger, swallowing it.
Laxus rolls to the side, and feels the ground just barely tremble as Oberon lands in his previous position.
He gets to his feet and sees Oberon's feet almost an inch into the dirt, his weight increased via Gravity Magic.
Laxus coats his fists with Lightning Magic and rushes forward, delivering a flurry of strikes.
Only for Oberon to thrust his hands forward and form a Gravity Barrier, preventing Laxus from getting past the invisible wall.
Seeing this Laxus stops punching, removing the electricity from his hands, and presses them against the Gravity Barrier.
"Your shields are annoying!" Laxus says as he pushes harder against the barrier.
Oberon smiles, and Laxus responds by firing a bolt of lightning from his palm directly at him.
Oberon sees the Magic Circle form in Laxus's palm and immediately pushes him backward.
Dropping the Gravity Barrier and instead raising a Light Barrier.
'If my Gravity Magic was strong enough to affect energy and Magic I wouldn't have to keep swapping like this,' Oberon thinks, annoyed with constantly having to alternate to defend against physical attacks and lightning attacks.
He creates the golden square of Light Magic and feels the bolt crashing against it. The bolt continues for a few seconds.
On the other side of the barrier, Laxus smiles.
'You're not the only one that learns fast,' he thinks before stomping his foot on the ground.
A surge of lightning ripples through the dirt around him, snaking its way under the Light Barrier and reaching Oberon's feet.
"Argh!" Oberon yells as his Light Barrier falls.
Laxus immediately rushes forward and lands a punch to his face, sending him tumbling backward in the grass.
Oberon steadies himself while laying on the ground, and looks up to see Laxus almost a dozen meters in the air, stomping down with a foot covered in lightning.
Oberon pushes off the ground and flies to meet Laxus in the air, surprising the boy.
"Don't take to the sky---" Oberon lands three punches to Laxus's body after dodging his Lightning Magic infused kick. "---If you can't fly!" Oberon punches Laxus in the face then spins and kicks him in the side, sending him tumbling into the grass below.
During the exchange, Laxus landed three blows on Oberon, but without proper leverage, their damage was nothing against the layer of Gravity Magic shrouding Oberon's body.
Laxus quickly gets up and puts his hands together, then aims at Oberon.
While standing in the air Oberon aims his hands at Laxus, ready for another clash.
But this time Laxus rapidly fires much smaller bolts of yellow lightning, each of which bends and curves in unique arcs, moving toward Oberon.
Oberon's eyes widen in surprise as he tries, and fails to rapid-fire bolts of Light Magic to destroy them, feeling one of the bolts crash into his side before another hits his leg.
'All these angles, he's so annoying, he thinks I can't defend with my shield, but you're not the only one that's been training on your own!' Oberon thinks as he closes his eyes for just a moment.
Then a sphere of Light Magic forms around him, defending him from all the bolts crashing into it.
"Hey!" Laxus yells out. "Since when can you do that?!"
"Since yesterday!" Oberon yells and he charges toward him with the shield still in full effect.
Laxus sees this and gathers most of his remaining Magic Energy into his right hand, ready to punch through the bubble.
Seeing this Oberon reaches forward and touches the bubble, reshaping the Magic Energy and cloaking his right hand in what once was the Light Magic sphere.
Makarov's eyes widen, not expecting him to have reached that far into his studies already.
Oberon's Light Magic covered fist clashes with Laxus's Lightning Magic fist to cause a small shockwave through the training area, even slightly rattling the Guild Hall.
When the bright light of their clash stops, just a moment later.
Makarov, Wakaba, and Makao see Laxus lying on the ground, barely conscious, while Oberon is standing over him, smiling.
"Your mistake was jumping into the air against someone who can fly, when you can't," Oberon says as he massages his right hand, still feeling tingly, as if Laxus' lightning is still dancing on his skin.
"I wanted to try that stomp you did earlier," Laxus says as he takes Oberon's hand, accepting his friend's help in getting up. "Guess I'll learn to fly before I do that again."
"Your Lightning Transformation is getting better," Oberon says as he helps steady his dizzy swaying friend. "And what was that thing you did with curving the lightning?"
"Figured it could help me get around your Light Barrier, didn't know you could make a bubble, cheater..."
"Hey I've gotta make up for the fact that I can't sense Magic by having awesome defenses, otherwise I'm dead," Oberon says as they make their way to the Guildhall side entrance, where the three men are waiting.
"Hey gramps, what's up?" Laxus asks. "When did Macao get back?"
"Just a few minutes ago," Macao says. "But more importantly, when the heck did you two start fighting like that?"
"A few days ago," Laxus says. "Having a punching bag makes training a lot easier."
Oberon gives him an annoyed look, "You know if I let go of you right now, you'd probably fall over, right?"
"No I wouldn't!" Laxus says.
Oberon immediately stops holding him up, and they all see Laxus begin to lean too far backward and fail to catch himself.
Oberon grabs him before he falls, "See!"
"You two will certainly become powerful Wizards in the future, but for now let's go to my office, there is something I must discuss with you both," Makarov says as he turns around and heads inside.
Both the boys look at each other, confused.
"You aren't in trouble," Macao says. "It's the good kind of surprise, just go see what he wants."
"Meet us by the bar when you're done, I'll go tell Enno to get your usual after-training food ready," Wakaba says, ruffling Oberon's hair before he and Macao leave.
"Do you think it's for a mission?" Laxus asks.
"I'm hoping it's more cool Magics, like those cards, or maybe more awesome books."
Laxus rolls his eyes, "Psh, you're such a nerd..."
Oberon immediately lets go of him, and this time he watches his friend fall to the floor...
