CHAPTER START---
High in the sky, Virgo looks around in amazement as the setting sun illuminates the clouds below in a faint orange hue. All around, she sees only clouds and empty sky, protected from the raging winds by a layer of Delta Stream Magic.
Aries's arms tighten around her midsection, her friend holding onto her for dear life as they soar through the heavens. Aries rests her head on Virgo's back, eyes tightly shut as she tries to ignore the situation they're in.
"You should look around, this is amazing," Virgo says.
Aries shakes her head, not daring to open her eyes.
"You must get used to this. Sir Oberon is always flying, we'll be expected to assist wherever he is."
Aries grumbles, then slowly opens her eyes to see the vast sky around them. Her stomach drops with each jerky motion of Pegasus beneath them, with Virgo in front of her holding onto the mane of white fur.
"Alright," Aries shuts her eyes and holds Virgo even tighter. "I've seen enough…"
Both Celestial Spirits are on the back of Pegasus, The Winged Horse. Oberon's newest Celestial Spirit, which manifests itself as a black and white horse. Powerful and large. Its shoulders standing at 12ft -4m- tall, the full size dwarfs a carriage. Complete with six legs and four wings, covered with black and white feathers.
Pegasus excitedly soars, free to roam the sky without the saddle it usually forms with, now reflecting its new master as a liberated spirit of exploration.
Virgo enjoys a few more moments getting used to her friend carrying them, before Pegasus climbs even higher, entering a new layer of clouds where the air is even thinner. But his Deltra Stream Magic protects them from such things while flying. Removing pesky things such as air resistance, creating a slipstream to increase speed, protecting from heat, cold, and small collisions.
And Pegaus enjoys the Magic Energy of Oberon fueling him beyond what he thought was possible. But even with this intimate connection between spirit and master, Pegasus is surprised to see Oberon float in front of them. He hovers just ahead, casually keeping pace while looking back at his friends.
"Looks like you're used to that new form," Oberon says. "How is it?"
Pegasus neighs, and Virgo translates for Oberon. "He loves it, and can't wait to see his new limits."
"Well then, lets test that. Magnolia is only about a thousand miles that way," he points directly ahead of them. "Virgo can keep you in the right direction. Now the only question is…can you keep up?"
Pegasus bucks excitedly in the air, startling both spirits on his back before giving Oberon a challenging nod.
"That's the spirit!" Oberon slows to keep pace alongside Pegasus. "Aries, whenever you're ready!"
They continue to cruise through the sky for a moment before Aries works up the nerve to raise one hand, then sharply brings it down. "GO!"
Oberon instantly accelerates, surprising Pegasus, who still isn't used to seeing a human move like that. But the spirit redoubles his effort, no longer hesitant to draw on Oberon's Magic Energy, and is pleasantly surprised to see the boy isn't withholding anything from him.
The wind around Pegasus stirs and forms beneath the wings and in front of him. The Magic Energy within them becomes so dense it releases a green hue as they fly into a gentle orange cloud.
Then, with a sudden burst of speed, Pegasus erupts from the cloud, sending a blast of wind in every direction, shattering the cloud as he causes a sonic boom outside the barrier of his Magic.
Virgo and Aries hold on even tighter as they close the distance to Oberon, seeing a boy as a dot in the distance that's ever-growing.
Ahead of them, Oberon smiles as Pegasus excitedly arrives beside him before accelerating even more, taking the lead.
"Wow, your Magic is really insane at boosting flight speed," Oberon says as he easily catches up to them and constantly matches Pegasus's speed. "In most situations you're definitely faster than me. Well, maybe not, but around people you definitely are. I can't use my full speed close to where people or things live."
While Oberon is idly chatting, Pegasus is constantly accelerating, moving faster than he's ever done before, drawing more Magic Energy in one day than all of his existence combined, and yet the boy keeps chatting, all while keeping pace.
Pegasus glances over at Oberon, slightly annoyed, but pleasantly surprised. Not by Oberon's power. No, all the Celestial Spirits know of that, even if they are forbidden from speaking of other Contract Holders to whomever they are currently contracted with.
But now Pegasus is experiencing firsthand what Virgo has been speaking of in the Celestial Spirit World, and he couldn't be happier that this was his master.
"—Luckily there isn't anyone up here, so we don't have to hold back."
Pegasus snaps out of his daze, having been so amazed by Oberon he completely missed what the boy said.
Before he could express any confusion, Oberon rockets off into the distance, instantly becoming a dot on the horizon while shattering the air with a few sonic booms ahead of them.
Virgo and Aries sense how amazed Pegasus is, and Virgo leans giggles. "See, I told you Sir Oberon was amazing. Even beyond Lady Layla, but only in output. He still can't match the affinity of a Heartfilia."
Pegasus excitedly neighs, agreeing, then draws on more of Oberon's Magic Energy to give chase.
---40 Minutes Later…
"Guess I win," Oberon says while descending to Magnolia. He's already slowed to quietly land in front of the guildhall, looking out at the town to see people going about their evening.
Withdrawing the Aries, Virgo, and Pegasus keys from his pocket dimension, he holds the keys and connects telepathically to them, sensing that they're still 20 minutes away.
"You two can head back, Pegasus wants to play a bit more," He closes Aries and Virgo's gates before landing in front of the Fairy Tail guildhall. After placing the keys back into his pocket dimension, Oberon turns and pushes open the large wooden doors to greet his guildmates.
And immediately ducks as Wakaba is sent flying over his head. He turns and catches the man with Gravity Magic, and Wakaba pats out the purple flames on his shoulder as Oberon sets him down.
He then walks back toward the entrance while forming a Smoke Construct Baseball Bat in his hand. "Thanks Oberon, now I'm gonna teach those guys a—" he stops just before rejoining the massive brawl in the middle of the hall.
Oberon is busy observing the fight, noticing a few new Magics being thrown about, soaking in every detail. But before he could enjoy the show, arcs of yellow lightning bounce around the hall, shocking everyone involved in the fight, leaving them twitching on the floor.
"No fighting with Magic inside, you'll damage the guildhall!" Laxus yells after appearing above everyone.
Before everyone could voice their annoyance at Laxus, Wakaba raises his voice to pull their attention to the entrance. "Oberon is back!"
All heads turn to see Oberon, happy to see that he's returned home safe, and glad for any excuse to party.
"Let's celebrate!" Someone yells, igniting the ever-partying powder keg that is Fairy Tail.
Oberon rolls his eyes before floating over to the bar with Wakaba walking beside him. "Glad to see some things don't change."
Master Makarov and Laxus are sitting at the bar, with the shorter man on the counter enjoying his beer. "We're all happy to see you've returned in one piece. Any lasting damage?"
"Nah, they were weak. I just took a bit longer because I extended my time at the archives. They had a lot more than I thought."
"Good. Now you should focus on getting some rest, perhaps in your new place."
"Ugh. I was actually kind of hoping it wasn't done yet. Getting used to sleeping in a new place isn't what I want to do tonight."
"At least this one can fit all your books…for now."
"Yeah, sure it can," Oberon looks around the guildhall for a moment before turning to Makarov. "Is Gildarts in Magnolia?"
"Yeah, he's in town. Just got in this morning, need something?"
"I just wanted to ask him about the Job he took when I was leaving. But I can just ask whenever I see him. That guy had some pretty interesting Maker Magic…almost wish I took the Job to hunt him down instead."
"He'll be here in the morning. For now you should focus on getting acquainted with your new house, and resting. Also, how is that other thing?"
Oberon pulls up his right sleeve, showing that only the Fairy Tail Guild Mark, Fairy Glitter, and Fairy Sphere marks are on his arm. "It's still too complex. Cosmic my be getting in the way of the life force connection part, but I'll figure it out."
"I see. All in due time I suppose."
"Yeah," Oberon and Makarov heart the noise in the guildhall grow, and Oberon decides to make his way home to study. "Before I leave, some gifts."
Makarov enlarges his free arm, stretching behind the bar to grab a glass without even looking. "This is why you're my favorite guildmember."
Oberon takes out a Storage Card and withdraws a large bottle of green and red rum.
"Ugh!" Laxus pinches his own nose. "I can smell that though the sealed bottle. What the hell is that?"
"Apparently the strongest rum in Bosco," Oberon shrugs.
"Too much for one person is what it is," Makarov grabs a few more glasses and the trio make their way to one of the tables in the middle of the hall.
There they join Macao, Reedus, and Wakaba, along with a little girl who's playing cards with them.
"New member?" Oberon asks as they all get seated, but he remains floating.
The girl looks up at him, nervously, then buries her face in the cards.
"That's Cana," Macao says. "She's not a member but she hangs around here."
"Got it. Hi Cana, I'm Oberon."
She looks up at him and nods. "Hi, nice to meet you."
"Do you have any Magic?"
Cana shakes her head, and everyone frowns as Oberon's disappointment is obvious, saddening the girl.
"Cana can likely learn Magic," Makarov says, trying to cheer her up.
"Really?" she asks.
"Of course. I can sense that you have the potential for it. Now it's just a matter of finding what Magic you're suited to, or what you enjoy." Makarov says while pouring everyone but the children some of the run.
Cana, Oberon, and Laxus cover their noses, and even Reedus leans away from the fumes. "Good gods, what is that?" he asks.
"I didn't have time to ask what was in it, but look," Oberon retrieves a second bottle from the Storage Card, amazing Cana. "I have a third one if you guys like it, but it could come in handy in the future so I'd rather hang onto it."
"Handy as what? Paint remover?" Laxus asks. "Should have kept all those in the damned Magic Cards."
"Magic Cards," Cana says, and they all realize she's been staring at Oberon's cards. "I didn't know you did Magic with cards."
"Eh, it's mostly just to make my life easier. Gravity and Light are what everyone knows me for."
"Those aren't Card Magic," Makarov says. "Those are simply Storage Cards, think of each of them like a backpack that fits in your pocket. But Card Magic does exist and can be quite versatile, there are even a few versions. We could try teaching you that, or something you have a high affinity for, that would be easier."
"How do I know that?" she asks.
"I can check," Oberon says. "It'll just feel like someone pinched you. I've gotten really good at this."
Cana looks slightly confused, then nods and squeezes her eyes shut, expecting horrible pain. But instead he gently taps her forehead with his finger, and she feels like a mosquito bit her on that spot.
She winces and massages the spot as Oberon stares down at her with wide eyes.
He freezes for a moment, and Reedus shakes him out of the stupor. "Sorry, was just, processing the information…"
"And?" Makarov asks.
"And what?"
"Her Magic affinity?"
"Oh, yeah, right. Card Magic is good, and a few others. She's got the potential to learn lots of Magics. But that did just remind me of something. Hey, Master, can I ask you about something that happened on my last S-Class Job?"
Makarov raises a brow at this. "Here?"
"Good point," Oberon doesn't wait for an answer, merely lifting the man and his drink from the table and taking them to the second floor, within the Privacy Runes.
"What's going on?"
"So you know how my Super Archive Scan works? With like, reading a person's true age, Magic Affinities, and genetics…"
"Is something wrong with Cana?"
"Well, she has an affinity for Crash Magic, and shares a lot of genetic similarities with Gildarts, so…"
Makarov facepalms. "I knew this would happen sooner or later. The consequences of his 'adventures' have come to Fairy Tail. I'll go talk to him, the last thing I want is for him to start freaking out in the guildhall…"
