CHAPTER START---
"Wow, they really got it done quickly," Oberon says as he flies to the side of Magnolia. Following the shore of the massive lake behind the city until he arrives at a small hill with a wide set of cobblestone steps newly built into it.
At the top of the hill is a two-story mansion, befitting a noble, overlooking both the city and the lake from the southeast of the guildhall. Flying above Oberon smiles, seeing the inground pool in his backyard, larger than it looked in the initial designs.
'I guess leaving Master Makarov in charge of overseeing this was the right choice…' he thinks while descending to the front door, and Requiping the key the man just gave him into his hand.
As he places the key into the lock, the entire house shimmers as the Security Runes on the structure and property deactivate. He excitedly enters and then locks the door behind him, reactivating the Runes.
In the main entryway are two staircases on either side of the room, along with a hallway between them and walkways to his left and right. Oberon doesn't bother looking around, already having the plans he agreed to memorized. He walks between the staircases and down a hallway.
Turning sharply before the kitchen, he opens a door with a second key, deactivating more runes before entering the stone staircase leading below his house. He descends two flights of stairs before entering on the fourth floor of his five-story underground library.
The structure is similar to Sabertooth's, as that was his inspiration. Complete with the study area and Archive Lacrima to act as librarian. Walking to the railing, he looks to the ground floor where the study area is. There, he sees many large wooden boxes waiting for him.
He leaps over the railing and slowly descends toward them, admiring the floors of empty shelves, happy with how tiny his collection of books appears on the shelves. The books he had in both apartments barely filled one-fifth of a floor, much less all five floors.
Oberon opens one of the crates, leaning the cover against it to look at the countless Storage Cards neatly preserved within.
"Archive Lacrima," he commands, and the floating Archive Lacrima librarian moves over to him. "Designate security boxes for Storage Card Collections. Each of these cards are filled with the most important books, they're labelled. Sort, file, and store them."
He raises his hand, causing all the Storage Cards to float into the air for the Archive Lacrima to get to work. It immediately begins moving these super high priority items to the reinforced vault boxes at the back of his library, keeping them safe from anything that can break the many layers of security for the entire library.
---2 Days Later…
Floating in his library, with the shelves and cards organized, still boasting mostly empty space, Oberon has his legs crossed while working on a large Super Archive screen projected in front of him.
With a thought, he adjusts and sorts the information on the screen, everything from his journal entries to Magics and Spells he's studied over the years. Minutes later, after he's satisfied with the information, he clasps his hands together and focuses his Magic Energy.
Using his very first, originally created Magic. Not to be confused by a Innate Magic such as Cosmic, but a Magic he specifically created through meticulous study. Upon its reveal months ago, the Magic Council and Sorcerer Weekly had a host of questions, most of which were left unresolved.
But much to his annoyance, Sorcerer Weekly once more seized the opportunity to plaster his face on the cover of that week's issue.
"Book Make Magic: Oberon Alkwan's Beginner Gravity Magic Grimoire."
He opens his hands and the Magic Energy condenses between them, forming a thick book before materializing into a real and permanent object. It hovers in place when the Spell is complete, allowing him to inspect it and the contents. The black and white thick cover boasting the title and Fairy Tail Emblem put a smile on his face.
Book Make Magic is deceptively complicated, much to the annoyance of the Magic Council, who hoped to use it for making documentation easier. As Oberon flips through the Grimoire he double checks every word, picture, and diagram. Everything within is pulled directly from his mind, from his Super Archive Magic.
And there lies the first hurdle to perform this Magic. The user must master Super Archive Magic, a branch of Magic that most cannot even begin to learn. Secondly, you must have a sufficient mastery of Wood Make Magic, to form real paper, along with any other component the book requires. This Grimoire also required a few more Magics, as it boasts an iron lock on the side along with metal engravings, showing off Oberon's Iron Make Magic.
After completing the inspection, he floats the book to the Archive Lacrima, which places it into one of the more secure vaults within his library.
"They're ready!" he turns to see Alana walking out of the stairwell with a large plate, piled high with cookies. "You're out of chocolate chips, you should tell Virgo to grab some on her way back."
Oberon pauses for a moment as she walks over, takes a seat in the research area, then floats down to her. "Done, I told her telepathically."
"That's still a little creepy. Can you see through her eyes and stuff?"
"I can only do that if she allows it, but yeah I can," He floats a few cookies toward his face, taking a bite of one. "Wow, these are good."
"Of course they're good, I made em. So, can you see into the Celestial Spirit world?"
"Nope. When they're over there that means the gate is closed, so the connection can't open. But they did mention that if my affinity was higher we'd be able to connect without the gate being open, but I still don't think it could do that."
"Awe, I'm really curious about what it's like in there."
"Me too, but humans are forbidden," Oberon shrugs. "But I don't think they have oceans there. Dorado prefers this world for sure."
"Oh yeah. I hope he's behaving himself right now."
Oberon closes his eyes, sharing vision with Dorado to get an update. "Looks like he's in the ocean somewhere…I think he's near the Southern Isles."
"He's already down there?"
"He's been out for a few days. But don't worry, if I need him I can just summon him here. Silver keys are pretty easy to use."
Alana and Oberon chat idly for a few more minutes before a bolt of golden lightning appears beside them, and Laxus materializes in the seat opposite her. The girl is startled, still catching her breath as Laxus is laughing, and Oberon merely rolls his eyes.
"Shouldn't you be at the guild?" Alana asks, narrowing her eyes at Laxus.
"I was, but it go too damn loud. Cana officially got her Guild Mark so everyone is having a party." He looks over to Oberon. "Just a heads up, Gildarts is a bit annoyed with you."
"Me?"
"Yeah well, his daughter is more interested in Card Magic than Crash Magic, he's taking it personally, and it is kind of your fault."
"You're welcome."
"For what?" Laxus asks.
"When you're guildmaster you'll only have to deal with one clumsy Crash Magic user, not two."
"Oh yeah, thanks." Laxus reaches into his jacket and pulls out an open envelope, handing it to Oberon.
The boy takes it and reads the front. "This is addressed to Master Makarov, from the Magic Council."
Laxus shrugs. "He said he couldn't make sense of it, so sent me to give that to you."
"Won't you get in trouble for reading that?" Alana asks.
"It'll be fine," Oberon takes out the page, which has a sketch of incomplete runes on it. "Heh, this is old."
"Old?"
"Five, maybe six hundred years old. No wonder he didn't recognize it. These runes became too inefficient centuries ago, we've long since abandoned them."
"Then why do you know them?" Alana asks. "I've been studying some of it for Cosmic, but these are…different."
"Did the person who delivered this say anything else?"
Laxus grabs one of the cookies before responding. "Yeah, it was part of like a altar or floor or something. Said there was a big room with that carved into the floor."
Oberon rubs the back of his head, trying to make sense of this. "No, that can't be right."
"It's what he said, I was there."
"But that would make the entire array the size of…" Oberon turns to Laxus. "We need to go see this in person, now."
Laxus nods and transforms into a bolt of lightning, leaving the library.
"Is it that bad?" Alana asks, seeing Oberon already sketching his hypothesis with Super Archive.
"I was hoping to spend more time here before leaving, but if it's what I think, we really don't have time to waste. Hopefully I'm wrong."
Alana feels her stomach sink."You're never wrong about Magic…"
