I raised my sword and stabbed the floor with it, causing a purple sphere of shadows to swirl around us as Wolfgango was about to give chase to my niece and son.
"Your opponent is me, not them," I said, sighing as I tried to keep my hand from shaking. My body was at its limits, but I couldn't let him escape. He would go down with me, if I must in order to protect Gre and Ame.
Wolfgango turned to look at me. "Your son and niece will eventually be discovered by the other rebels. I can't promise you they will give them a quick death like I would. The citizenry's rage against your family is great. You'll be hard pressed to find a peasant who doesn't abhor the monarchy."
His words stung. Not because they were false, but because they were true. My sister had ruled with an iron fist, expanding our kingdom at the cost of many lives. People inside and outside the kingdom had wished for nothing more than to end the greedy queen.
