Chapter 59 - A Busy Day

When Wuli and Shuli headed downstairs to the kitchen, Leyan was already there cooking breakfast.

"Just wait for a few more minutes, and it's almost finished. I forgot to cook your guys' portion."

Everyone else was already at the table, eating the food she had cooked, as the two of them took a seat across from Xiaoyun.

"Man, I wish I had a housewife like Leyan... Getting up early in the morning and cooking for the entire family." Wuli commented.

"Xiaoyun is so lucky to have Leyan as his wife. Not a lot of people know how to cook nowadays." Shuli added.

"Ha ha yeah, I'm very lucky to have her." Xiaoyun chuckled before taking a small sip of his coffee.

"I've got to go to work now."

Yuqi quickly drank the rest of her coffee before leaving, leaving her food unfinished on the table.

"Yeah, me too."

Yueyue drank the rest of the milk in her cup and finished her food, walking over to the sink to put her plates away before leaving.

With both woman out of the house, Wuli and Shuli both turned their attention over to Xiaoyun, who seemed to be in no hurry.

"Mr.Mayor, you don't have to go to work?" Wuli curiously asked.

"I got a flexible schedule. I don't have that big of a responsibility as you might think." Xiaoyun answered as he took another sip.

Just as Leyan came back with two bowls of noodles for the two of them, Xiaoyun almost spewed out his coffee from Shuli's question.

"Xiaoyun, what do you think of Yuqi and Yueyue?"

"T-They are great. W-Why do you ask that?"

"Well, it must be weird to have them be your daughter and your sister... Nami, what are you laughing at?"

"Nothing!"

Despite Nami's answer, both Wuli and Shuli could tell something was off, as even Lily couldn't help but chuckle a little.

"Nami, don't you need to go to work now? I bet the store is full of people. Also, Lily, you should go with Nami to help her today."

Xiaoyun quickly hurried the two of them out of the house, leaving Leyan at the table with them as she sat down to eat.

"They're gonna know it eventually, you know..." Nami warned before being shoved out of the kitchen.

"What does she mean by that?" Wuli curiously asked.

"Oh, it's nothing. Don't worry about it."

Xiaoyun nervously scratched his head as he took a seat next to Leyan, eating his bowls of noodles before he had a suggestion in his head.

"Hey, Wuli and Shuli, do you guys want to live in one of the mansions? I can arrange it for you guys."

"I don't think we deserve that. I think those wooden cabins are fine," Wuli instantly replied, rejecting his offer.

"Okay then... I'll tell Yuqi to arrange one of them for you guys... How about your job, Wuli? Teaching Yueyue really isn't a long-term job."

After a few bites of the noodles, Wuli spoke up again.

"I think I want to join the military."

"Part-time militia or full-time soldier?" Leyan curiously asked.

"Probably part-time for now... But maybe I should apply for Yuqi's office job. I used to be an accountant anyway."

Seeing Wuli looking a little down, Xiaoyun didn't say anything against it, as an office job is much safer than being in the military.

"You definitely get in if you apply. Oh snap, I got to go now."

Xiaoyun quickly finished the cup of coffee and left the house, leaving the three of them at the dining table.

"Let me bring you two around the town. I got nothing to do anyway since the hospital is still not finished." Leyan offered.

"Sure. Let us finish the food first."

---

When Xiaoyun arrived at the administrative building, the entire road was filled with people.

He could see the two tiny pupils working tirelessly at the counter, with customers constantly going in and out of the store.

"How is it going?" Xiaoyun asked, walking over to the counter.

"Very busy. I can't even look for someone to hire."

Nami's hand was still moving as she counted the goods and the food stamp amount before handing the goods over to the customer.

"Brother Xiaoyun, two of us are nowhere enough people," Lily complained as she worked on the other register.

"Okay, okay, I will go tell Yuqi about this."

Xiaoyun quickly left the crowded store, heading to the other side of the administrative building, where he could see several long lines in front of the five booths.

He walked behind one of the lines before tapping a person's shoulder in front of him.

"Hey buddy, can I ask why everyone is waiting in line here?"

"Oh, good morning, Mr. Mayor... I think everyone is here because they didn't get their allowance yesterday due to running out of food stamps."

"I see... Don't worry, they will have enough today."

After answering back, Xiaoyun started walking around the lines, going straight to the booth entrance before going inside.

"Hey guys, did we really run out of food stamps yesterday?" Xiaoyun asked.

The five booth workers instantly turned around before realizing the person next to them was the mayor.

"Yes, boss, we don't have anything to give them... We had been waiting for the store to get back the food stamps so we could give an allowance to them next."

One of them replied, with the other four all nodding in agreement.

"I see... Here, take these and pass them out for now. I'll talk to Yuqi about printing more of them."

Xiaoyun quickly ran back to the backstage area before coming back with an entire box full of food stamps.

"Thank you, boss!"

As the five of them returned to work, the booth line process started working once again. Seeing everything back to operation, Xiaoyun left the booth.

Heading upstairs to the main office, the first thing he saw was a bunch of accountants working in their cubicles already.

Every single one of them has several stacks of paper next to them. Just a short glance showed it was rows upon rows of personal information.

"God damn, that's a lot of work..." Xiaoyun mumbled as he quickly walked past the cubicles into the break room.

With no one in the room, he realized everyone was working. Not a single person was taking any breaks at all.

"Wow, everyone is really busy working. I guess that many people really are adding to the workload."

Xiaoyun quickly poured himself two cups of coffee before walking towards Yuqi's private office.

Just as he was about to knock on the door, the door itself opened, revealing an officer who had just turned in his work report.

"Good morning, boss."

"Good morning... Yuqi, how is the work going?" Xiaoyun asked as he walked inside the office before putting the coffee down.

"Not looking too good. You're going to need to replenish the goods soon... Also, the booth had run out of food stamps. Can you print more of it?"

Yuqi asked, one hand opening the report on her desk while the other grabbed the coffee that Xiaoyun had just put down.

"Sure, I will go do that right now... Anything else that needs me?"

"Nope, just that. You can go now."

Yuqi suddenly started scratching her hair in frustration as she flipped to the next page of the report.

Seeing her starting to look more and more irritated, Xiaoyun quickly bolted out before she could lash out at him.

---

When Xiaoyun approached the bus on the street, he quickly pulled him aside to ask him to teach him the basic control of the bus.

After just ten minutes of learning, Xiaoyun quickly took the bus for himself before driving it out of the town.

Thirty minutes later, he drove the bus back full of supplies.

When the bus was parked inside the storage, everyone working there was a little shocked.

But none of them questioned it as Yezi quickly directed them to offload the supplies before Xiaoyun exited the bus.

"Yezi, can you return the bus to Renqin later?"

"Sure... But you could have just taken a bus from the storage, you know." Yezi murmured as he pointed over to the parking lot full of cars.

"Right. I completely forgot about that."

As two of them watched the workers unload more and more supplies from the bus, Yezi suddenly raised a little question.

"Xiaoyun, have you thought this is a little too much at once? People are going to start asking questions sooner or later."

"It's fine, they will never expect how they're getting it. They will just think I got a massive warehouse out there somewhere.

Nobody will think this was created out of thin air... Do you believe that if I never told you?" Xiaoyun questioned back.

"I guess... Anyway, when did you learn how to drive a bus?" Yezi curiously asked.

"Renqin taught me. Why else would I say return the bus to Renqin for me? Did you already forget about it?"

"Make sense... Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, I'm forming an exploration plan and a rescue plan to get more people from the city outskirts to the town.

I hope you can approve it. Here's the document and the formal plan I had made for this operation."

"Of course I will approve——Wait, well, that will depend on Yuqi. I can't determine that right now."

Xiaoyun immediately changed his answer, his mind remembering what happened last time when he carelessly approved something like this.

"Whatever, I will give her the plan tomorrow myself."

As Yezi quickly took the document back and left, Xiaoyun watched the worker unload the last box of supplies off the bus.

With nothing much to do, he decided to drive the bus himself, driving out of the storage unit before he found Renqin still standing where he had left him.

"Sorry about taking your bus... Here's some compensation."

Xiaoyun tried to hand Renqin twenty food stamps, only for him to take five as he rejected the rest.

"This is way too much. I'll accept what I have earned. You can keep the rest to yourself."

"That's fine... I'm gonna go back to work now. See ya, Renqin."

"See ya, boss."

As Xiaoyun waved goodbye, Renqin drove off with his bus as he began heading back to the administrative building on foot.

Walking down the road, he could see people holding bags of food, with some of them even waving at him when they saw him walking by.

He quickly waved back at them before they entered their log cabin. With a smile, Xiaoyun couldn't help but feel a little proud inside.

After walking for a few minutes, he finally arrived at the administrative building.

Right at the front entrance, the long line at the booth was finally gone, with the store itself looking relatively empty.

Xiaoyun headed straight to Yuqi's office, opening the door without knocking, and walked straight in as usual.

"You finished restocking it?" Yuqi instantly asked as she glanced at him for a second before looking back to her work.

"Yeah, everything should be good now. I just loaded an entire bus of goods into the storage and gave an entire box of food stamps to the booth earlier."

"That's good to hear."

Seeing Yuqi working so hard, Xiaoyun felt guilty just sitting there on the sofa, so he decided to get up and walk over.

"Let me help you with this..."

---

As it approached noon, the two of them were a little hungry. But there was still a ton of work to do.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. Xiaoyun quickly walked over to open the door, only to see that it was one of the accountants.

"Um, we were wondering if you want to come with us to the restaurant that just opened." The accountant offered.

Xiaoyun and Yuqi looked at each other for a second. Then he turned around to give his answer.

"Sure, we will go."

A few minutes later...

The two followed the group of accountants to the so-called restaurant, which was actually several tables and chairs outside of a wooden cabin nearby.

A ton of people were already lining up as well, with the majority of them being construction workers who paid for the food before leaving.

"When did this kind of business appear?" Yuqi curiously asked as the five of them took a seat at one of the tables.

"I don't know either... I mean, we never said people can't have their private business. It's quite genius to start a cooking business right about now.

People have to eat, but they don't just want to eat cold canned food. Even heating it is better than nothing." Xiaoyun answered.

"Hmm... Maybe we should put a plan in place to encourage people to start their own business, then..." Yuqi murmured.

After sitting for a bit, one of the restaurant waiter finally arrived at their table.

"How can I take your order? Oh my, good afternoon, Mr.Xiaoyun and Mrs.Yuqi."

The waiter instantly reconganized Xiaoyun and Yuqi as they stood out among the people sitting at the table.

"Good afternoon." The two responded.

The accountant started ordering their food, and when it finally got to the two's turn, they looked slightly confused.

"Um, we will just have what they are having," Xiaoyun replied.

"Okay, Beef noodle soup it is."

The waiter quickly headed back to the cabin as Xiaoyun turned his attention over to the long line right at the cabin's window.

"Is that line for people who want to order and go?" Xiaoyun curiously asked.

"Yeah, sitting on the table costs one extra food stamp, and since everyone wants to save as much as they can.

They would rather just eat it at work or on the bench. Most people are sick of eating canned food. Us included."

One of the accountants replied, their tone seemingly implied they had come to this place multiple times in the past.
