Chapter 12 - 12. Cultivation

As the years passed, the white wolf and the young girl, Huang Biren, grew up together. With the wolf's masterful acting, the young girl came to see the beast as her best friend. When Huang Biren attended her lessons, the white wolf sat by her feet, ever the loyal companion. With its great intellect, the wolf was able to learn about human society, their customs, culture, geography, and languages. It even taught itself to read and write.

As a noble, the young girl was also required to learn things like horse riding, painting, archery, and calligraphy; all things her parents believed would make her the perfect woman, just like her older sister, Huang Shengyi. Huang Biren proved to be a child prodigy, mastering all of these skills by the time she was twelve.

In terms of cultivation, she proved to be as good as her elder sister, if not better. Every night after her lessons, she would sit cross-legged in her bedroom and cultivate using her family's technique, the Rumbling Tiger. This technique, found by the founder of the Huang clan in a forbidden land, was said to be the most powerful in the Tinding Kingdom. It was because of this technique that the Huang clan was able to become the fifth ruling family, despite the obstacles put in place by the four original ruling families.

Whenever Huang Biren cultivated, the white wolf would observe her every movement closely, desperate to find a way to increase its own power. As the years went by, the wolf learned a great deal about cultivation. After studying the Rumbling Tiger technique, it concluded that demonic beasts could not cultivate human techniques; their bodies were simply too different.

Even with this knowledge, the wolf's craving for power led it to try cultivating using the technique. The results were devastating. The wolf spat up blood for days, its internal organs severely damaged. The only reason it survived was because Huang Biren pleaded with her parents for a healing alchemy pill.

After that incident, the wolf knew for certain that demonic beasts couldn't use human cultivation techniques. It had no choice but to cultivate as beasts do, by slowly absorbing world qi into their bodies. With time, their cultivation would increase, but this method was incredibly slow and could take tens of years to show any progress. For a demonic beast filled to the brim with vengeance and hatred, this was unacceptable. The white wolf would not give up on finding a better way.
