Sophie Sullivan could only watch as he raised the pistol with one hand and, using all his strength, threw it fiercely in her direction.
THUD.
The pistol landed precisely at her feet. Her body stiffened, and she stared at him, unmoving.
She couldn't even bend down to pick up the pistol at her feet.
"Thomas Shannon, you bastard..." Her heart ached terribly. Sophie could only watch helplessly as he sank deeper and deeper.
She was powerless; she didn't know what else she could do.
Nor did she know what she could do for him.
She couldn't bear to watch him be swallowed by the quicksand.
She didn't want him to die.
She didn't want Thomas Shannon to die.
