"If you don't leave now, you'll become my burden. Understand?"
"Do you have a way to save yourself?" Sophie Sullivan asked, her face filled with disbelief.
Thomas Shannon sneered. "Of course. Who do you think I am? Do you really think mere quicksand could take my life?"
Sophie Sullivan's heart began to waver.
She didn't want to die... Nor did she want Thomas Shannon to die trying to save her. If there was a way for both of them to survive, that would be for the best.
"Thomas Shannon, are you sure you're not lying to me?" Sophie Sullivan raised her head, staring unblinkingly into his eyes.
Thomas Shannon lowered his head, gave her a light peck on her red lips, and murmured in a low, raspy voice, "Don't worry, I won't lie to you."
Only then did the grave expression on Sophie Sullivan's face relax, and she broke into a smile. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
"Good girl." Thomas Shannon lowered his head and kissed her cheek.
