Chapter 9 - Rules

"Two days?" she asked, her eyes widening.

"Hmm," Rose hummed, smiling warmly. "I must commend you—you're very beautiful, dear."

Candy forced a small smile. "But… who are you people?"

"I'm Rose, that's Diana," she gestured, "and you—what's your name?"

"Candy."

"Wow, such a pretty name," Rose beamed. "Just like the owner."

"Please don't flatter me, Rose," Candy said with a faint smile.

"I'm being real," Rose replied.

"She's heard enough already. Stop being so talkative." Diana cut in as she walked toward them.

She paused, turned back slightly, and smiled—though her eyes were cold.

"Everything you heard when you woke up must never leave this room. If it does, you won't leave this clan with your head."

With that, she turned and walked away.

"Eww, Diana, don't scare her," Rose sighed.

Candy glared after Diana. "You like your boss, don't you?"

Diana halted mid-step. Slowly, she turned back.

"Yes," she replied with a smile, carefully masking the anger in her eyes.

"It's sealed," Candy said, miming a zipper over her lips.

"That's good," Diana said, smiling once more. The smile vanished the moment she turned away and left the room.

Rose sighed and faced Candy.

"Don't mind her. She's always like that. But take her warning seriously—her threats aren't empty."

"She actually suits that monster," Candy muttered.

"Huh?" Rose asked.

Candy shut her eyes briefly, then opened them with a sigh, biting her dry lips.

"Don't tell me… I'm in that monster's clan?"

Rose's smile widened immediately.

"Yes. You're in the Wolf's Clan, Candy. Welc—"

"Oh no!" Candy screamed, falling back onto the bed. She kicked her legs wildly, sending the duvet flying.

"Oh no! I wanna die!"

Rose stood frozen, mouth agape, watching her with an amused expression.

"She's really something," Rose muttered. "I just hope what I heard about you isn't true. Because if it is… you'll die by the boss's dagger, knife, or a gunshot."

Candy sprang upright.

"I'd rather die than stay here, Rose. I can't live under the same roof as that monster you call a boss."

Rose gasped.

"So it's true? You're really that stubborn. The boss will definitely kill you—"

The door suddenly flew open, and Julie and Jose rushed in.

"I heard she's awake," Jose said excitedly, plopping onto the bed.

"She's really pretty," Julie admired.

"She's totally my type," Jose added, grinning.

Julie shot him a glare and smacked his head.

"Ouch!"

Candy stiffened. "Who are they?" she asked uncomfortably.

"They are—"

"Pause," Jose interrupted, raising a hand. "I'll do the honors. I'm Jose, the most famous chef on this continent, and this is Julie—my little assistant."

He ruffled Julie's hair.

Her face darkened instantly.

"How dare you?" she snapped. "He's my assistant."

She pulled a spoon from her apron and smacked Jose hard on the head.

"Ouch!"

Candy winced, squeezing her face as if she were the one hit.

"Julie… ouch," Jose whimpered, rubbing his head.

"So, what's your name?" Julie asked.

"Candy."

"You people should warn her," Rose said seriously. "The rumors about her are true."

Julie nodded. "If you want to survive here, you must obey the rules."

She began counting on her fingers.

"First, never touch his chewing gum or lollipop."

"And most importantly," Jose added gravely, "never call his name. If you do… you're dead. No exceptions."

Candy frowned, confused by the ridiculous rules.

"So I shouldn't call his name—which is Raymond—"

"HOLY MOLY!" Julie gasped, instantly covering her mouth and glancing around.

Jose and Rose froze, blinking repeatedly as they exchanged horrified looks.

"She won't last long here," Rose muttered sadly. "He's definitely going to kill her."

"Such a pretty girl, wasted," Jose sighed. "She should at least let me—"

Julie turned sharply and glared at him.

Jose immediately shut his mouth.
