It wasn't easy for Cicely to explain her story, but working and talking made it manageable. She told him how her dad went for a mission and never came back.
Ultimately, she was nicer than most people, but was quite indecisive. She had picked him up to drop him at a hospital and when she found out he was fine but homeless, she didn't know how to tell him to get out of the car.
Bian found that strange, if she worked in such a large company, surely she couldn't always be such a doormat.
"What do you do at work anyways?"
He was compelled to ask, there was no way she had an important task if she couldn't even kick a stranger out of her car.
"Oh, I'm a receptionist."
'Ah, it's all suddenly making sense.'
Bian shook his head.
"Do you have a place where I can stay for a week, until I get a job?"
Cicely shook her head.
"I spent the last of dad's money on this so I would always be in my house. I usually just stay here or over at a friend's house, but she wouldn't let you in.
Besides, I don't think you can get a job unless you know the right people. "
Bian felt a headache incoming. It wasn't that he lacked skill, he just didn't have the opportunity.
When Cicely finished cooking, they ate dinner and Bian found that she controlled the car with the wristband on her. It worked on brainwaves too, making it quite nifty.
"She's actually a game addict!"
After she had freshened up, she hopped in the game and started playing. Bian also freshened up, thanks to her lowering the privileges in the car, and several hours later she was still playing.
He was using Mental Point Targeting to strengthen the memory of the language he learned, which was the universal language spoken by most races.
It was two hours past midnight, most people would have gone to bed by now, but she was still playing Shooters Royal.
Bian kept surfing the Internet, he was like a dry sponge thrown into an ocean.
"The mythical weapon with the highest damage is the Electromagnetic Thermal Sniper. Its rounds can pierce through walls, vehicles and armor all the same, and it comes with a thermal scope. Unfortunately, its attack is too precise, it's very hard to land a shot with it."
Having settled on the gun he would use, Bian searched for any lottery system he could exploit, but the Saiyans didn't do such. However, there were several gambling dens everywhere.
Bian even found some locations near him. As long as he had a coin, he could earn more.
Yet another downside was, most official business used virtual money. He had to get his own account if he wanted to score big.
He heard a grunt as Cicely took off the headset.
'You spend half your day working and the other half gaming.'
Bian wondered if he would be living a similar life without the knowledge he possessed.
"I saw you also registered for the Shooters Royale, you should turn on your in-game audio system. It allows you to hear and speak to other players."
"Why would I want to do that? Wouldn't it make it easier for players to hear me coming if I talk a lot?"
Bian smiled, he wasn't interested in taking smack and throwing insults.
Cicely rolled her eyes, "What if you kept quiet, wouldn't you be the one finding other players easily? Plus, it improves the game audio, helping you detect invisible players."
Bian rubbed his chin as he thought about it.
'She must be a pro, I didn't see anything like this online.'
Seeing him so quiet, Cicely felt triumphant.
"You should just try your best, the winner is going to be a Viscount like me. We can react way faster than any barons and you haven't even generated your geno armor."
Bian coughed twice.
"Yeah, about that. Do you have a spare account you could lend out for a while?"
If Bian wanted to create his own account, it would require a lot of documents. Documents which he didn't have and could take months to register.
It wasn't exactly ethical to lend someone an account, but Cicely found an old watch and gave it to Bian.
The smartwatch zipped across his arm and flashed on. Bian had learnt it fueled itself on the body heat.
"This was my dad's smartwatch. You can also use his account for now."
Bian went through the smartwatch and Cicely told him the account details. When he checked it out, he saw it was empty.
He had to cough again.
"There's no money here, could you send me some?"
Cicely looked at him with deadpan eyes. She was already so tired, she just sent him the money without saying anything else.
"When are you leaving?"
She asked but it wasn't a question.
Bian considered some things and responded, "Give me a week, but I'll need your car to get around."
"No way."
She immediately shot him down. Everything else she gave Bian was disposable, she didn't even mind him sleeping there because she was a Viscount and he was worse than a commoner. Her car, her home was the only thing she would not hand out.
'No dice huh, I'll have to use cabs.'
Bian didn't push his luck. When she went to sleep, he went back to practicing the language.
...
The next day, after Cicely went to work, Bian finally left the chair and went to lie on the sofa.
"My head feels hot." He said in the common language.
He slept for some hours and woke up refreshed.
"Now where to, do I go to the market and find that thread or go gambling?"
He could do either one, but Bian decided to go to the market first. He was curious about what the Emperical Thread led to.
With the settings lowered, Bian was able to open the hatch of the car and hail a cab.
He didn't dare call for a flying car, settling for one on wheels instead.
Some time later, he was back where it all started. He saw a small child holding an iron pot by the side and had to look away in pain.
"This world is too cruel."
He followed the thread to a certain stall, a small shop that sold fruits.
"What can I get ya?"
The shop owner smiled at him.
Bian pointed at a vine of grapes and said, "I want to buy those grapes over there."
He paused for a moment and bought some bananas too.
After he paid by transfer, Bian kept the grapes in the bag provided and took out the bananas. As he passed by the boy from earlier, he dropped the bananas near him.
He didn't have any words to say, he just left and called a cab back to where the car was parked.
Bian still wore the same clothes, but they had been cleaned and stitched. No one suspected him as he approached the parked car.
He saw all manners of vehicles, most of them capable of flying and only a few drove on roads. It told him that this was a high-end business.
The car reacted to his smartwatch and opened for him. Inside, Bian sat on the sofa and inspected the fruits.
It looked like normal blue grapes, but the Emperical Thread led to one particular grape hidden in the cluster.
Bian was on high alert, after all opportunities and dangers coexisted. He carefully parted the berries and saw one that was no different from any other.
"This is it?"
The surface was ice-cold, sending a shiver up his arm the moment he touched it. It wasn't soft like the other grapes, it was as hard as a diamond.
Upon closer inspection, Bian realised that it was a crystal grape.
He searched online and found out it was a geno fruit at the baron class called a vigor fruit.
Vigor fruits which came in bunches cost more than most individual Viscount-level geno fruits. Something weird must have occurred to a vine, causing only one grape in the middle to become a vigor fruit.
Although, just at the baron level, it could help him generate his geno armor.
Bian couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"So all these threads lead to one treasure or the other?"
He checked the time, it would be a while before Cicely came back and the car was quite secure. Bian swallowed the crystal grape and ran the Dongxuan Sutra.
Right now, he only had two geno arts, the Story of Genes and the Dongxuan Sutra. From what he recalled, trying to level up the Story of Genes would require an astronomical level of resource, so his best shot was to use the Dongxuan Sutra to become a noble.
