Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Captain, Don't Shoot, It's One of Us

Lying on the ground, Dong Shengjie heard Zhang Beixing demand that he rat out the mastermind.

A struggle flashed across his bruised and swollen face. But soon, he made up his mind.

Dammit, the job is botched anyway. If I snitch on my employer, then the promised five thousand bucks will definitely be out of the question.

I can't take this beating for nothing.

"I won't talk!"

After uttering this defiant statement, Dong Shengjie gritted his teeth and violently knocked his head on the ground.

With a THUD, Dong Shengjie's eyes rolled back, and he passed out on the spot.

Zhang Beixing stared. ???

Seeing this, he was taken aback and looked at the other four. He found that they, too, were following suit, knocking their heads to feign unconsciousness. There was even one who wanted to spill the beans for leniency. But just as he began to speak, before the words could come out, his accomplice grabbed his head and smashed it onto the ground.

THUMP!

A crisp sound echoed—clearly a solid impact. Looking at their stiff, straight legs…

Hmm... They must get really good sleep!

All this happened in just a few seconds.

In the third-floor common room, bodies were strewn all about.

Looking at the five people lying there in utter tranquility, Zhang Beixing was totally baffled. He was just about to stand and say something when he heard a chaotic rush of footsteps approaching from outside.

BANG!

The door to the common room was kicked open, and a group of security guards rushed in. The head security officer, wielding a plastic baton, shouted, "Shi University security team! Everyone stay where you are and don't move!"

Hearing this, Zhang Beixing paused mid-action. After a moment of thought, he chose to stand up, raise his hands, and say, "Captain, don't shoot! I'm one of us!"

Hearing this, the head of security turned to look. He hadn't intended to, but once he did, he saw five people lying scattered at Zhang Beixing's feet, bruised yet strangely peaceful.

At this sight, the head of security felt as if his head had been struck; it was buzzing with confusion. After a long moment, he finally asked in a trembling voice, "Did you... did you kill someone?"

Zhang Beixing stared. ??? It wasn't me! I didn't do it! Don't spout nonsense!

Zhang Beixing was utterly flabbergasted. Although he had hit them hard, not pulling any punches, at the end of the day, he was just an ordinary person whose Power had only recently broken 70. Inflicting injury was one thing, but to kill someone—Zhang Beixing insisted he hadn't gone that far.

Fortunately, it was later confirmed upon inspection that these people, despite being severely beaten, were merely unconscious and still breathing. This allowed the head of security to sigh with relief, as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders.

Bloody hell! If someone died on my watch during my tenure at the school, my responsibility would be enormous! Losing my job would be a small matter, but the key issue is that I might very well become embroiled in this and spend some time in the police station.

"You took all these people down yourself?" His immediate worries dispelled, the head of security relaxed and looked at Zhang Beixing, asking with some disbelief.

Zhang Beixing nodded. "Yes!"

"HISS~ Good lad! I really didn't see that you were so tough!" the head of security exclaimed in shock.

You see, people like these street thugs might not have any impressive skills, but they certainly had plenty of street fighting experience. An ordinary person facing them wouldn't necessarily stand a chance, even one-on-one.

But Zhang Beixing had just fought five of them alone and had knocked them all to the ground.

He definitely wouldn't believe it if someone said Zhang Beixing wasn't trained in martial arts.

However, at this moment, rather than asking if Zhang Beixing was a martial artist, a more important question was on the head of security's mind.

"Little brother, are you new here?"

Ever since he first saw Zhang Beixing, the head of security had been wondering about this. Young, good-looking, tall, and also a martial artist. With so many traits combined in one person, it was against common sense for him not to have an impression. But if it hadn't been for today's incident and the sky-blue security uniform Zhang Beixing wore, he really wouldn't have known such an impressive individual was part of the Shi University security team.

Hearing the head of security's words, Zhang Beixing, without blushing or panting, nodded and said, "Yes, Captain. I just started working here a few days ago! You can call me Xiao Zhang. I've been on duty these past two days. I hope for your guidance in the future."

"Oh, so that's it! Haha, look at my memory. I forget things when I get busy. Sorry about that, Xiao Zhang. It's been rather hectic lately, what with Labor Day coming up and the students going on holiday. When we have a day off, I'll treat you to a meal!"

Believing Zhang Beixing's explanation, the head of security chuckled and brushed the matter aside.

Then he looked at Zhang Beixing and said, "Well, Zhang, can you tell me what exactly happened here? After all, by the time we arrived, you had already subdued everyone, so we don't really know the specifics. You understand, I have to write a report for the leadership..."

"Of course, no problem, Captain. It went like this..." Zhang Beixing readily agreed and then began to explain the incident.

The gist of it was that Dong Shengjie and the others had come to harass female students at Shi University. He explained that he happened to pass by, witnessed the harassment, and intervened. Consequently, these men attacked him. To avoid injury, Zhang Beixing defended himself. And in doing so, he had knocked all five men down.

After recording Zhang Beixing's statement, the head of security patted him on the shoulder, full of approval. "Well done, Xiao Zhang! Protecting the students and daring to fight against evil forces—you are the pride of our Shi University security team! When I get back, I will definitely recommend you to the leadership for a promotion. With your skills, it's a waste for you to be just a regular security guard!"

"Captain, you flatter me. If it weren't for your trust in me, allowing me to patrol this crucial area of the campus, I wouldn't have been able to discover this incident so promptly. Besides, as a security guard, my duty is to protect the peace. I like Little Bear biscuits, and I like the campus belle, Xiao Rou! I hope every time I see her, she'll say to me, 'Darling, good morning!'"

Zhang Beixing had now completely assimilated into the identity of a security guard, reeling off flattering and catchy phrases one after another.

Hearing his words, the head of security also laughed heartily, not chastising Zhang Beixing for the informality of his latter remarks. After all, in his view, Zhang Beixing was a young man. It's quite normal for a young man to like beautiful women, even though the beauty probably wouldn't give a mere security guard a second glance. Especially when this young man was also exceptionally skilled.

"Well, then I wish you success in achieving your desire soon—to win over the campus belle Xiao Rou, and have her call you 'Darling, good morning' instead of 'Morning, Security Guard'!" The head of security offered Zhang Beixing some encouragement.

He then looked at everyone in the classroom and said, "My apologies, students. Today's incident, which frightened you all, was due to a lapse in our duties. We are very sorry. We will surely strengthen our checks on external personnel in the future to ensure that such incidents do not happen again."

"Now, we won't disturb your studies any longer. Alright team, let's move out!"

"Yes, sir!" Zhang Beixing chimed in from among the security staff and secretly winked at Lin Siqi. She immediately covered her mouth and chuckled lightly. She nodded in acknowledgment and raised her mobile phone, indicating that they would contact each other later.

Then Zhang Beixing, along with other guards, escorted Dong Shengjie and the four others away, following the main group out of the common room.
