Chapter 72 - XWC : WHERE BONDS END

CRACK!!

The sound of splintering wood and anguished cries pierced the air as flames devoured the small hut. Lilith, no more than 6 years old, clenched her tiny fists, her eyes wide with terror as she crled her newborn brother, Vorgath, in her arms.

The war had come to their doorstep, and their parents lay motionless, victims of the Great Wushu Guan War.

With no one to turn to, Lilith took charge, her young shoulders bearing the weight of responsibility. She fled into the night, Vorgath bundled tightly in her arms, as the flames consumed their home.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Lilith scavenged for food, her stomach gnawing with hunger, as she struggled to keep Vorgath alive. "Shh, I'll find us something to eat," she whispered, her voice trembling as she rummaged through abandoned market stalls.

But food was scarce, and Lilith's desperation grew. "I'm sorry, Vorgath, but we need this," she said, her eyes welling up as she snatched a loaf of bread from a vendor's cart. The vendor chased her, but Lilith was quick, darting into alleys and narrow streets, Vorgath clinging to her back.

As Vorgath grew older, Lilith taught him the art of survival, her own skills honed from necessity. "Watch and learn, little brother," she said, her voice low as she demonstrated a pickpocket's technique. Vorgath's eyes sparkled with excitement, and he mimicked his sister's movements, their bond growing stronger with each passing day.

Together, they navigated the underworld, their reputation as cunning thieves spreading, as Lilith's skills became legend. Vorgath adored his sister, and she him, their bond unbreakable.

But Lilith's latest scheme would change everything. Senku, an outsider with a persuasive tongue, had convinced her to kidnap the Sukuna clan leader's son. The plan was reckless, but Lilith's ambition blinded her to the risks.

"We'll be set for life, Vorgath," she whispered, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "We'll never have to scurry for scraps again."

Vorgath's eyes widened as Lilith outlined the plan. He trusted his sister implicitly...

Lilith stood in a cramped, dimly lit alley, her eyes locked on Senku as he unfolded his plan. The air was thick with the smell of smoke and grease, and the sounds of the city filtered in through the narrow passageway. Vorgath hovered close, his gaze darting between Lilith and Senku, his expression a mix of curiosity and unease.

"...and then we make our move during the evening prayer hour," Senku concluded, his voice dripping with confidence. Lilith's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with the possibilities. "This was it – the chance to escape the life of scratched living, to give Vorgath a better future," she thought.

Vorgath's eyes sparkled with excitement, and Lilith's resolve hardened. She nodded, her voice firm. "We're in."

The night of the heist, Lilith and Vorgath donned their disguises, their movements fluid as they navigated the Sukuna clan's territory. The air was electric with tension, the only sound the soft crunch of gravel beneath their feet. Smoke Lotus Bombs detonated, casting a crimson haze over the western perimeter as guards rushed to contain the chaos.

Lilith and Vorgath slipped into the storage hall, their forged tokens granting them access. The air was thick with the scent of incense, and the soft chanting of prayers filtered in from the adjacent courtyard. They moved swiftly, their eyes locked on the training courtyard.

But as they reached for the child, alarms blared to life, shattering the night's tranquility. Guards swarmed, their faces twisted with rage and confusion. Lilith's eyes met Vorgath's, and she knew – they'd been caught.

The world around them descended into chaos. Lilith shoved Vorgath through a narrow shaft, her heart racing as he stumbled, scraping his arm on the rough stone. They sprinted through drainage tunnels, spirit hounds hot on their heels, their barks echoing off the walls.

An arrow whizzed past Lilith's shoulder, embedding itself in the wall beside her. Vorgath's eyes widened, but he didn't look back, his small legs pumping as he kept pace with Lilith.

Finally, they collapsed in a ruined outpost, their chests heaving, their bodies bruised and battered. Vorgath's eyes searched Lilith's, his voice barely above a whisper. "Senku... That snake ratted us out?"

Lilith's face crumbled, her rage and guilt boiling over. She pulled Vorgath into a tight hug, her voice cracking. "I thought I was gonna lose you. I almost cost you your life."

Vorgath's arms wrapped around her, his voice steady. "You were trying to save us. I know that. I chose to follow you."

Lilith's grip on him tightened, her eyes welling up with tears. "I will never drag you into danger again. If the world turns against us, I stand in front. Always."

Meanwhile in the present..

The air around Lilith pulsed with energy as she completed the Hakkai no In. The ground trembled, and the sky seemed to darken further, as if the very forces of nature were bending to her will.

Meili and the others stumbled back, their faces etched with exhaustion and tension, as Fenrath took advantage of the distraction, its massive body lunging forward.

But Lilith was ready. With a fierce cry, she raised her hands, and the air around her exploded with energy. "Cool your asses, I'm done!" she shouted, her voice like a crack of thunder.

"Make room, you guys, I'm coming to save my brother!" Lilith's eyes blazed with determination as she launched herself at Fenrath, her body a blur as she closed the distance.

The group leapt back, their swords at the ready, as Lilith confronted Fenrath. The beast let out a deafening roar, its body thrashing wildly as it prepared to meet its match.

Ryker's eyes locked onto Lilith, his expression a mix of concern and admiration. "It's now or never," he muttered, his sword at the ready.

The air was electric with tension, the outcome hanging precariously in the balance. Lilith's voice rose to a crescendo as she unleashed the Hakkai no In, the very fabric of reality straining to contain the power of the jutsu...

Lilith's voice rose to a crescendo as she invoked the Hakkai no In. The air around her began to distort and ripple, as if reality itself was bending to accommodate her power.

Meili, Kai, and Fuse caught a frightening sight - a shape began to form around Lilith, like a grim creeper spreading its dark tendrils. Ryker's eyes narrowed, his expression grim. "It's the Hakkai no In's shadow... she's sealing Fenrath."

Fenrath let out a deafening roar, its body thrashing wildly as it tried to break free from the group's attack and Lilith's jutsu. Ryker, Meili, Kai, and Fuse fought to keep it occupied, their swords striking in unison as they aimed for Fenrath's vulnerable spots. SWOOSH! SWOOSH!

Lilith's struggle intensified - her face contorted in pain, her hands weaving intricate patterns as she channeled her energy into the jutsu. "I... have to... save him..." she whispered, her voice barely audible over the chaos.

Meili's eyes welled up with emotions as she watched Lilith's agony. "What's happening? Is she going to be okay?" she asked Ryker, her voice trembling.

Ryker's expression was grim. "She's sealing Fenrath... and herself with it. It's a sacrifice."

Fenrath's roars grew desperate, its body beginning to slow as Lilith's jutsu took hold. "F...foolish... girl..." Fenrath growled, its voice like thunder. "Vorgath won't be alive even if you get rid of me."

Lilith's eyes locked onto Vorgath's, a faint smile on her lips. "I know brother, I'd rather we die together."

The jutsu reached its climax, and Lilith's body began to fade, her energy spent. Vorgath, trapped within Fenrath's form, began to stir, his eyes flickering open as he felt his sister's presence.

Vorgath's gaze met Lilith's, and he whispered, "Lilith... sis..."

Lilith's face lit up with joy and sorrow. "Vorgath, I'm here brother."

Vorgath smiled weakly, glad to see his sister one more time. "Lilith, I'm glad you're right next to me in the end."

Lilith's voice trembled as she replied, "Vorgath, don't talk like it'll end..."

Vorgath's smile widened. "It's okay sis. We were always gonna end like this. But we had each other."

Lilith's eyes welled up with tears as she held onto Vorgath's fading form. "Brother..."

Meili watched in agony, trying to find ways to stop their deaths. "Sifu Ryker, there has to be something we can do, anything at all?" she asked, her voice desperate.

Ryker's face was somber. "No, Meili. The seal's set. They'll..."

Vorgath glanced at Meili, surprised at her passion. He turned to Ryker, his voice weak. "Ryker... please, complete the mission. End Xaphan..."

Ryker nodded, his expression grim. "I swear it, Vorgath. But I'll need your help with information, any would do."

"Of course," Vorgath murmured something into Ryker's ear that left him stunned.

After a little while, Lilith and Vorgath breathed their last breaths, their faces peaceful in death. Vorgath smiled, his eyes closing as he whispered, "Lilith..."

Lilith's tears fell onto Vorgath's face, her voice barely audible. "Vorgath..."

The group stood in stunned silence, their faces etched with sorrow and respect. Meili turned away, her eyes welling up with tears.

In the shadows distance away, a figure watched the aftermath of the battle, his eyes gleaming with interest. "Ah, Vorgath's curtain falls. A pity, but his defiance was a worthy encore. No matter, things are still going smoothly in the Western Region. The stage is set, the players are poised - soon, the three academies will crumble like autumn leaves in the wind."

Meanwhile, in the Western Region, Kaito and Kaede fought desperately against Lyra and Xaphan. The air was thick with tension as the two teams clashed, their movements a blur of speed and power.

Lyra sneered, her voice dripping with contempt. "Pathetic. What a bunch of incompetent weaklings? You're like insects scrying to fight the tide."

Xaphan chuckled, his eyes glinning with amusement. "Weaklings, you say. You shouldn't fault them, they can't even begin to comprehend the power we wield. Their best bet is to surrender now, and maybe we'll let you live."

Lyra scoffed, "Like hell I let that happen, they all die in the end."

Kaito gunted, his body battered and bruised. Kaede stumbled back, her face smeared with dirt and blood. "We won't surrender..." she whispered, her voice defiant.

Kaito's mind raced as he fought to keep his footing. "They're not gonna let us surrender... they're waiting for us to keep fighting... buying time for something... but what?"

"Why aren't they pressing the attack? What's their endgame? They want us to exhaust ourselves, for a reason... gotta snap out of this... gotta see the bigger picture..." Kaito thought.

Kaito's eyes locked onto Lyra and Xaphan, his gaze narrowed. "They're waiting for something... or someone. We need to figure out what they're up to and disrupt their plan."

Lyra's patience wore thin, her voice lashing out like a whip. "Are you going to keep us waiting all day, get up and fight peasant!" she sneered, striking at Kaito with a swift kick.

Kaito quickly dodged, maintaining a safe distance as Kaede joined him. They began murmuring, exchanging every Intel they could grab. "They're stalling... for what?" Kaito whispered.

Kaede's eyes darted between Lyra and Xaphan. "My guess is they're probably waiting for reinforcements... or a trap to spring."

Lyra's face twisted in frustration. "Cowards! You think running will save you?" she taunted, her Ice sword slicing through the air mere inches from Kaito's face.

Xaphan chuckled, his voice low and menacing. "They're like cornered rats, scrying for a way out. Amusing, really."

Kaito's inner monologue: "Gotta keep them guessing... can't let them get the upper hand... what weakness could you spot?"

Kaede's voice was barely audible. "We continue to go at them head on, but that'll be fatal. They are both really tough, but the chick's impulsive... We'll use that."

Kaito's eyes locked onto Lyra, a plan forming in his mind. "Keep her busy... I'll take Xaphan."

Kaede nodded, her sword flashing as she activated her bujustu. "Bujustu, Human Transformation, Gorilla!" Kaede shouted, channeling her energy to activate her shape-shifting technique.

Kaede's body began to transform, her muscles bulging as she took on the form of a massive gorilla. Lyra's eyes widened in surprise, and she lunged forward, her sword flashing.

Kaito took advantage of the distraction, his eyes fixed on Xaphan. "Now's my chance..." he whispered, launching himself at the menacing figure.

Kaede, now in her gorilla form, clashed with Lyra, their movements a blur of speed and power. Lyra's sword sliced through the air, but Kaede's massive arms deflected the blows, her strength and agility a match for the ice-wielding warrior.

Kaito faced Xaphan, his giant sword flashing as he launched a series of quick strikes. Xaphan parried each blow with ease, his eyes glinning with amusement. "You think you can keep up with me, little boy?" Xaphan taunted, his voice dripping with contempt.

Kaito's thought, "He's toying with me..."

Kaito launched a series of rapid-fire attacks, but Xaphan countered each one, his movements fluid and effortless. Kaede, still in her gorilla form, was locked in a fierce battle with Lyra, their swords clashing in a flurry of steel and ice.

Suddenly, Lyra stumbled, her footwork faltering for a moment. Kaede seized the opportunity, her massive arm swinging down in a crushing blow. Lyra barely dodged, her face twisted in rage. "You beast!" she snarled.

Xaphan's eyes narrowed, his expression cold. "Lyra, focus! Don't let them get the upper hand!" he snapped, his voice like a whip.

Kaito took advantage of Xaphan's distraction, launching a swift kick at the warrior's stomach. Xaphan grunted, his face impassive, but Kaito saw the flicker of surprise in his eyes.

Lyra's eyes flashed with fury as she counterattacked, unleashing her menacing Bujutsu. "Bujutsu, Tide Ascension Art!" she shouted, her voice like a tempest.

A wave of water burst forth from the sea closeby, crashing into Kaede's gorilla form with tremendous force. Kaede stumbled back, her massive body struggling to maintain its footing.

Kaito's eyes widened as he saw Lyra's power. "Kaede, fall back!" he shouted, launching himself at Xaphan with renewed urgency.

Lyra advanced on Kaede, her water elemental abilities creating a maelstrom of waves and currents. Kaede fought to stay upright, her gorilla form battered by the relentless assault.

Xaphan sneered as Kaito attacked, his sword flashing in a complex pattern. "Dance, boy!" he taunted, his movements weaving a deadly trap.

Kaito dodged and weaved, his sword clashing with Xaphan's. But Lyra's Bujutsu was taking its toll on Kaede - the gorilla form was starting to falter.

Kaede growled, transforming back to human form, her breathing ragged.

Kaito's battle with Xaphan intensified, water swirling around them as Xaphan pushed him back. Kaito's thought, "Gotta turn the tide... use the water... think... think..."

Kaito's eyes narrowed, a plan forming in his mind. "Bujutsu, Water's Vortex, spin it!" he shouted, unleashing a swirling torrent of water.

Kaito's eyes widened in surprise as a second swirling torrent of water erupted beside him, crashing into Xaphan and Lyra.

"Well, seems the cavalry's here!" Kaito exclaimed, his face lighting up with hope.

Hua, Jaggy's crew, Kaguya's crew, and a few other warriors emerged from the surroundings, their swords at the ready.

Kaguya smiled coolly, her eyes locked on Lyra and Xaphan. "Looks like we're just in time," she said, her voice dripping with confidence.

The second torrent was indeed caused by Kaguya, her water elemental abilities matching Kaito's in intensity.

Jaggy grinned, cracking his knuckles. "Time to even the odds!"

Lyra and Xaphan's faces darkened, their expressions wary as they faced the newcomers. "More... insects," Lyra sneered, her voice lashing out.

Xaphan's eyes narrowed. "This changes nothing. We'll crush them all."
