Chapter 3 - The Strange Point System

Turns out the 100 points that Selene had when waking up in this strange world, were for one level each. Likely the gift that the God was speaking about. It was a generous gift, seeing as now she was likely to be the fastest little girl any bandit and assassin had ever seen!

The cautious girl looked over everything once final time, wanting to make sure that everything was where she wanted it to be. She didn't want to have any regrets later.

Ability Points: 0

Agility: Level 59; 0 Points

She nodded once she finished, momentarily pleased with herself, then she noticed a problem. Stamina. Most children don't have a lot of it, not enough to run away from an attacker for long periods. But there wasn't any box for it. Perhaps they didn't need it? Or maybe it was one of the only "skills" that had to be trained naturally? Both thoughts made sense in a way...

Looking to her side, she saw books laying there in beautiful covers of emerald green and chocolate brown. There were words pressed onto the front, but she couldn't make out what they said. Still, she was curious on what the words inside said book would look like. Would she be able to read them? Would they be able to help her and her new dilemma?

Cautiously, she grabbed the top one and began the journey of reading it. She always liked reading and running, the only two things she ever considered herself good at. The only things she dared consider herself good at. Maybe now it would come in handy.

A ping went off after an hour of ciphering through the words. Looking up, she saw a small pop-up window.

Congratulations! First [5] Intelligence & Insight Points Earned!

"Five... Points..." She blinked in a nearly bewildered state. Then another ping with another pop-up appeared.

Congratulations! First Nonmagical Skill: Language Comprehension at Level 1!

A third ping.

Congratulations! First [10]Nonmagical Points Earned!

She blinked as she stared at these words. That was quick... Intimidatingly so, but it was... Interesting.

Looking back to the book, a smile grew on her lips. The words that she had spent an hour trying to decipher were finally making sense! She could finally understand them! It must've been her new Language Comprehension skill. That one would definitely come in handy.

With that, she delved back into her book, every few hours hearing a ping go off. She didn't bother looking, she wouldn't need those points just yet.

By dinner, Miss came back with food, she smiled sweetly to her ward. It faded some as she saw the book in her lap. Was the original Selene not a reader? But she said something about a Library earlier... Was it an inside joke?

"I wanted to learn..." The new Selene mumbled quickly. That was always her response to those looks, always facing disappointment.

Miss fixed her look and shook her head.

"Of course... Your head must be so empty." That felt like an insult, but it was true at this current moment. "I have brought food."

Selene nodded, setting the book on the table next to the bed, giving the kind maid time to put the tray in her lap.

"Miss... While I was reading, a... Words appeared in front of me... Saying I earned points?" She was once again feeling hesitant on asking this. These things were likely common knowledge.

She looked at her curiously before nodding hurriedly, as if she remembered something. Perhaps she's not as nice as she was thinking?

"Yes, that is how one gains points. Reading only helps with Intelligence and Insight though. Running helps with Agility and Defense; and learning any skills, magical or non with their respective correspondence. To gain Strength and Attack points it is easier to carry heavy things. Now, sometimes points can be earned swiftly of each other if there is a combination of things. Take for example, if you read a magic book, you'll gain the five points for reading, but also the fourteen for learning a magical skill."

She nodded at every word the maid was saying. It made sense.

The young girl thanked her, and she left to draw a bath. As she ate, she wondered what she could do. If there was a library, she would need to read as many books as possible, both for fun and to help her navigate the world when she's considered an adult, whenever that may be. She would also need to make sure to learn as many Magical and Nonmagical skills too, to make herself useful in some way, along with increasing her Defense and Agility even more.

By the time Miss came to get her, she was already certain of what she would need to do, no matter how improper it would be for a Duke's daughter.
