Chapter 9 - Registration

"It's dangerous! Absolutely, horrifyingly dangerous! This was supposed to be a onetime thing!" Ms. Olly looked genuinely horrified at the thought of Selene becoming an Adventurer. "Do you know how many people die a day?" Her voice softened at the end, tears gathering in her eyes.

Selene looked to the floor. She really did hate worrying Ms. Olly. It was true that adventuring was a difficult job, and it was even more true that the death toll was high amongst Adventurers. There were many things that could kill them, from monsters to mysterious illnesses even other Adventures! Still, there was money in it. A lot of money.

"But I can't stay here forever. They're noticing me. If I don't do something, they could fully disown me, and then we'd all be without a home!"

Her face scrunched like she ate something sour. She had thought of that as a possibility. She knew that they most likely would as her young Lady didn't think the same as the main family. It was saddening, seeing as she was so lovely and kind, strong in her own right.

"But-"

"Ms. Olly, if I die as an Adventurer, you and the others would be able to go back to the main family. It would be an honorable death at best... Staying here, is nothing more than waiting for death."

The older woman quieted; her soured face grew before she lowered her head. After a long moment she finally nodded her head. She still looked heavily unsure and worried in a way.

"Wear the best armor you can... And bring Izzy and Clover. They should be able to help you and keep you safe."

There was a hard thumping noise, drawing the young lady and head maid's attention. Glowering so murderously was Amzi. Her sparkling blues were like a twisting whirlpool of rage.

"Selene won't be leaving without me."

"But, Amzi, it'd be-"

"Not without me."

The two stayed silent for a minute before they both sighed.

"Alright..."

The blonde-blue haired woman gave a satisfied huff, the rage softening to her regular sweet blue. She then turned to the tray that she had heavily placed on the tableside. On it were a few teacups along with a thing of cream, sugar, a pretty teapot, along with a few treats.

A few more minutes passed, the three of them talking about what to expect and what type of equipment to take. Once the talking was done, Selene retired to the library. She felt that she needed to reread a few books, along with some maps. If she was going to become an Adventurer, she would need to relearn about many other things. Maybe there was a book about monsters she forgot about? It would make sense; she had read a lot of books.

Within no time, she and her four servants were ready to depart to the next town over to register as Adventurers and to gather good gear. Disappointingly, the gear they currently had wouldn't stand against anything higher than E! From which were basically still regular magical animals!

The journey to the new town was simple and boring, which they found to be good. None of them felt like dealing with bandits and without the right equipment, they didn't want to fight monsters.

Soon, they stopped outside the Adventurers' Guild called Ivory Bow of Flares. It was a strange name, but that didn't matter.

Taking a deep breath, Selene cautiously entered the guild. The reception area was large, with a bar off to the left. There were booths and windows on both sides and many circle tables throughout with a large bulletin board in the back. Standing in front of the door was the proper receptionist area, with a few young-looking people doing some paperwork.

No one looked to them, and there seemed to be a mix of Adventurers and normal citizens, the room filled with low chatting. It was soothing to hear the low rumbles, to not feel the eyes of unknown people on her.

"Hello, do you have a request you want to submit?" A twenty-something woman gave a low smile, but her eyes showed boredom.

The Noble lady gave a shy smile.

"Not a request... The four of us want to become Adventurers."

The woman's smile vanished completely at her statement. Then she sighed heavily, looking almost disappointed.

"Sure. Names." As the woman spoke, she pulled out an orb similar to the one the Priestess had used. However, instead of being almost clear, it held a foggy green sheen.

"Selene Gaea and my three attendants; Amzi Lapi, Izzy Cambell, and Clover Leafsville."

She nodded, still having that bored look. She touched the orb, letting it glow a soft green. There were words being scribbled across it too fast for a normal human to read. At least if Selene was in her birth home.

When the glow faded away, her face looked more interested. Her bored eyes scanned the four of them before sighing heavily. It seemed as if she was disappointed in what she saw versus whatever she had read.

"Alright, I'll write down your names and the accomplishment the three of you have and the referral Amzi has. In three days, you'll be tasked with other applicants to do three simple rank E jobs. Failure means you'll have to wait another year to try again. If you succeed, then you four will start out as rank E Adventurers." She paused for a moment, her eyes looking at the simple gear they wore. "I suggest that while you wait, you buy some new armor."

Nothing more was said from her, instead she turned her attention to a long sheet of paper. Likely filled with the names of the other applicants.

"Th-Thank you, Miss." Selene gave a bow of her before she and her servants hurried away.

The young lady was glad that they were able to register, and at a low rank it shouldn't be hard for them to learn the ropes of being an Adventurer. But first they would need new armor... Hopefully, there were cheap and good blacksmiths in the area.
