From the very beginning of the republic's existence, the entire nation held great expectations for other countries.
This is not to say the republic lacked backbone, nor that they were negligent or lazy in protecting themselves. Regardless of political faction or ideological leaning, all political parties and citizens were passionate about enhancing national power and restoring the nation, and right-wing groups and the military-industrial complex grew and developed from this soil.
The determination of the republic is beyond doubt, but determination and reality cannot be confused; the consequences of enforcing determination while ignoring reality have been amply demonstrated by the Old Charlemagne Kingdom.
