The petty conform outwardly but not in harmony, the virtuous harmonize without conformity. This speaks to two levels of human society.
The petty appear to agree with each other but are always acting divisively, while the virtuous strive for harmony but maintain their own opinions.
From a human perspective, there is fundamentally no absolute right in this world.
Even if a sage is among us, someone can always find angles to question the sage's ideas. Not seeking ideological unity and allowing different thoughts to exist marks a human advancement.
Yet, the highest form of humanity should be the substantial unity of thought, where other ideas are not eradicated as they recognize that all rivers lead to the sea and voluntarily converge. However, before achieving such unity, permitting ideological diversity is progress, whereas forcibly imposing unity is regression, a step closer to dictatorship.
