When his phone rang, Max Davies was reviewing some documents.
Seeing it was Lynette Moreland's number, his expression immediately softened.
"Lynette, it's so late, you're still not asleep?" His voice was gentle, a tone even he hadn't realized himself.
"I can't sleep." Lynette Moreland walked into the back garden and randomly sat on a stone. The stone was hard and cold. "Mia just got back and brought me a gift. She said she had a great time with Brother Ann at the Nearby Market."
Max Davies put down his pen, pulled a cigarette from the pack with one hand, lit it with a lighter, took two puffs, and then asked, "Is something bothering you?"
Lynette Moreland was silent for a moment, saying softly, "A little."
"If you have time to be upset over unrelated people, it means you're too idle. From now on, aside from going to work, spend your free time going to the market with me to buy things. We still haven't bought everything we need for the wedding."
"Should I go buy them?"
