DOMAIN EXPANSION - INFINITE KOKUSENS
-Story Start-
A bright, beautiful morning following the first two classes.
The first semester was coming to an end.
Exams were on the horizon.
And the sea of students swarming the hallways in-between lectures was... distracted by a rather loud protestful roar?
It was the sight of the infamous first year.
The Strongest Huntsman in Vale to the skeptical, Strongest Huntsman in the World to the rational, striding through the hall with that eye-catching sword strapped to his side and that usual listless look on his face.
The usual view.
Now, the peculiar element this time around was that his teammate, partner, and Leader was being practically dragged around by the powerful boy as her arms wrapped around his abdomen as she shouted protest after protest:
"REJECTED!"
"NO!"
"BETRAYAL!"
"TREACHERY!"
"BACKSTABBING!"
"ABANDONMENT!"
"I WON'T ALLOW IT! LISTEN TO YOUR LEADER!"
The garnered attention had begun to spread misunderstandings and theories, at least from what Weiss and Pyrrha could hear from the crowd of gossip girls playing Huntsmen.
"Nothing to see here, move along!" She shooed them away with a freezing glare as they walked by.
Glare was ineffective on the 'crowd'.
"Tch, seriously, get a hobby!" She clicked her tongue, deciding that maybe Alex's approach to the situation was the correct one.
"Sorry for the commotion, everyone!" Pyrrha apologized for the Team's sake as they continued the... odd stroll through the hallway, aiming for the exit of the main building.
How had this all begun?
Like so:
"I'm heading out for a bit," Alex announced to his teammates dismissively, as they paused in front of him just outside the door to the classroom.
Weiss had already formed her conclusions with an incredulous look and tone of disappointment, "I swear you're worse than an addict. You had coffee just an hour ago."
He corrected her assumption, "Ah, no, I'm heading out to help defend a town for..." He paused to contemplate the time constraint, confirming to himself he'll cut it short if it takes too long, "I'll give it a week, two weeks if it's really nice there." He lifted two fingers.
"Gonna go to Ozpin's office, so tell me if you need anything done in the dorm room before I go."
...Which brings us to the current situation.
The vast door into the main building stood open as it led outside, the sight revealing the beautiful morning sun's rays and the open campus gardens and streets. In front of them, Students and staff frolicked, almost ignorant of the disorder outside of Vale as Beacon Tower stood out in its grandeur, piercing through the clouds above.
"Alex!" Ruby roared out once more, this time changing her tactics in an attempt to slow him down in his already rather leisurely stroll.
She climbed Alex's torso with blinding speed, seemingly momentarily utilizing her Semblance, and wrapped her legs around his chest, her right hand tightly hugging his neck and the left completing the L shape to make a Neck Crank choke. "DON'T! GO! WITHOUT! US!"
Ruby's face was reddening from overexertion, her muscles tensed as she tried to strengthen the neck wrench she applied.
The dangerous chokehold had done nothing to slow Alex down, or even partially block his airways, as he continued his stroll.
In fact, what had hurt him more was - "Don't scream in my ear, damn." He slowed down, turning his head to meet Ruby's tomato colored face and furious silver eyes that were mere inches from his own.
Exhaling an exhaustive breath, Ruby's color slowly returned to her face as she weakened her choke, her eyes innocently yet dangerously narrowing at Alex. "So, you won't go?"
"I will. Besides, you know the three of you can't go outside the Academy-" The chokehold returned to full throttle, yet his words hadn't slowed down, "Grounds, so that's that."
Letting go once more, and taking a few breaths, Ruby's tone was much more composed, "Are you going... because of an order from that 'God'?"
"Product of his mind." Weiss swiftly corrected, her sensitivity on the subject waning due to Alex refusing therapy.
Ignoring her, Alex answered Ruby's inquiry with a shake of his head, "No. I just wanted to lend a hand, no need to overcomplicate it."
Finally hopping off his back, Ruby landed on her feet. She walked a bit ahead of him, stopping to stand beside Weiss and Pyrrha.
She turned to him with a bitter smile, "That's..." She hesitated, but her bitter smile grew more genuine, "Good. I'm happy to hear that."
Pyrrha added, ruffling Ruby's short hair much to the latter's dismay, "What Ruby's trying to say." She shook her head and corrected, a bittersweet smile gracing her lips, "What we're trying to say is that we're happy you're getting better... but it feels a bit lonely that you're flying past us, we're a Team."
The atmosphere was indescribable. Warm, lonely, sad, happy - the whole spectrum.
Alex blinked at that admission and turned to look at Weiss. He pointed a thumb at the duo of touchy-feely, "You seeing this, Weiss? They think one mission, I'm alone, and it's all over."
"Yeah, I'm seeing it, Alex. Forgive our overdramatic teammates for being a smidgen angsty. Truth be told, they're happy and envious of you. I'm big enough to admit that." She huffed good-naturedly, a tiny, amused smile on her lips as she waved the two girls beside her off.
Ruby stuck out her tongue to Weiss like a brat, "No one's jealous of anyone, Weiss! Blegh!" She tapped her chin as she recalled swiftly, "Oh, that's right!"
The air visibly shifted at Ruby's transparent, awkward look, "You'll... miss Blake's funeral."
"Is there like... an attendance check or something for that?" Alex callously remarked.
"Alex..." Ruby's chastising tone was met with a shrug.
"The ones who she was important to, and were important to her, should attend. Anything else is just a kind gesture. Look, if it's any empty consolation to you, I would've gone if not for this. But to me, this is far more important." He gestured at the endless stretch of Beacon Tower.
Ruby hummed, uncertainty and conflict dancing in her silver eyes, only to pause momentarily as a reassuring hand had been placed on Ruby's shoulder, "Huntsmen missing funerals is a bleak norm, Ruby." Pyrrha relayed the harsh truth.
Weiss mentioned, "If it works as compensation for the 'Hero' of the party missing in the funeral. I've volunteered to sing in the Funeral Service."
Alex whistled, impressed, "Wow, a Schnee singing at the funeral of an EX White Fang member..." He remarked with a slight hint of concern crossing his features, "Your dad's not gonna spank you when you go home for vacation for associating something like that with your mighty dynasty or something?"
He wasn't even making fun of her; he was genuinely a bit concerned for her.
Alex didn't have the highest opinion of the rumored Jacques Schnee, just from hearing about him from Pyrrha and Weiss.
Ruby's head bobbed as she agreed with Alex, "Although he could have worded it better, isn't that like... a big, big problem for you, Weiss?!"
Pyrrha appeared lost in thought.
Weiss smirked confidently, "As much as I appreciate your worry." She turned to Alex with a glacial glare, "As uncouthly expressed as it was, I'll be fine. And how ludicrous a subhuman can you be?"
"Ouch." Alex appeared deeply offended.
Weiss continued unperturbed, "Fly from here to Atlas each vacation? Really?"
"You're rich beyond my comprehension or something like that, you'll find a way." Alex hadn't conceded the point.
He hazarded a guess, "Some secret technology pulled straight out of the Atlas Military for a small fee of 1,000,000,000 Lien to shorten flight times by three percent."
Ruby's expression hardened, "Oddly specific... You know something."
Alex went with the joke. "I might."
Weiss could only shake her head with exasperation, though her smile said otherwise.
Then Pyrrha finally broke out of her thoughts, "Is this a small gesture of rebellion, of sorts, Weiss?"
Weiss snorted, "He doesn't want me to be a Huntress. And yet, here I am." The scar on her eye ached for a moment as she continued her stance, growing more haughty, "This will be yet another of the many gestures to come."
"Wicked~" Ruby grinned in approval and gave a big thumbs-up.
"Very cool." It was this short statement that prompted Alex's continued, leisurely, purposeful stroll towards Ozpin's office.
For once in a blue moon, he had places to be.
"Let us at least accompany you there!"
"Whatever floats your boat."
-----------------------------
"You'll be going with 'Coffee'." Ozpin's orders reverberated in the otherwise empty office, barring Alex, who sat with a cup of freshly brewed coffee in his hands.
Him? Going on a mission? With Coffee?
Ozpin was speaking sweet temptations with ease and precision.
Alex fell prey immediately.
His lips lifted slightly, a small smile on his face, "Nice. Do I need to load it up to the Bullhead? Where's the crate?" He inquired, accepting the orders with naught a moment's hesitation.
Ozpin shook his head good-naturedly, "No, I meant Team CFVY, which is pronounced as 'Coffee'. Though they are a bit tardy." He looked at one of his many floating screens, noting the hour being 11:25 AM.
"Oh." Alex hadn't made any effort to hide his disappointment.
"There should be some generators set up there. I can't ascertain if there's any coffee machine or beans on the field, but you are welcome to bring your own."
Alex dismissed that option immediately. He wasn't risking that exclusive and expensive machine.
"Canned it is."
Thus, they fell into a comfortable silence as Ozpin returned to his work with Alex, listlessly and peacefully sipping on his small cup of joy in life.
A good eight or so minutes later, the sound of distant footsteps echoing from the hallway was noticed by Alex, and only then by Ozpin. The highly advanced door opened with Ozpin clicking on a button immediately, as it opened to reveal Coco Adel with her foot braced for a big, loud kick with her exasperated team behind her, minus Fox, who stood in anticipation.
Her plan, averted. "Ruining the fun as always, heh, Headmaster?"
"Your eccentricities are costly, Miss Adel." Ozpin curtly retorted, though his amused smile stated otherwise.
Alex, on the other hand, hadn't turned to greet them as he focused on the more important things.
Sipping his coffee.
'Goodness me, this is fantastic.'
Nodding, Ozpin gestured to the team of second-years to enter, "Good, now that you're all here-"
"IRONWOOD'S LONG LOST LEFT TESTICLE! IS THAT ALEX ANDRITE?!" Coco rudely pointed with an aghast expression.
Yatsuhashi, the big fellow, mumbled out. "I thought we were going with another Team?"
Fox grinned, chuckling with a pat to Yasuhashi's back, "That is a Team." He shook his head good-naturedly as they all approached, Velvet following along with a slight flush.
Coco was the first to swiftly approach, invading Alex's personal space as she waved her hand to stop him from listlessly gazing at the window showcasing the view of the clouds.
"Well, well, it's a pleasure to finally have the honor of making your acquaintance, junior! You might have heard of me, but I'm a good friend of your Team's Leader... You can attribute a good chunk of her success to me, of course."
"Oh, you're that Coco guy. Nice to meet you, too." Alex greeted her with another sip, addressing her with a respectful nod.
His short greeting and acknowledgement hadn't discouraged Coco, not that it was supposed to.
In fact, it had only added fuel to her rising voltage, "Oh, you're a shy, tough little cookie like Velvet over here..."
'Velvet... Wasn't that the Faunus Girl?' He had remembered her name, even dedicated storage in his goldfish memory for it.
Weird.
Alex turned his head to scrutinize his seniors who would be joining him in this mission, recognizing the shy Velvet who was trying to make herself small, hiding behind Yatsuhashi.
Making eye contact with her, a strange shiver went down his spine, only deepening the mystery.
His short trance was broken off by the voice that was growing mightily irritating, "Don't you worry, we'll get to know each other realllll good in this mission." Coco leered like a loon.
"Mhm. So you're a 'Nora'." Alex nodded to himself, confirming something only he and a select few others would understand. Turning to Ozpin, he pleaded, "Is it possible to go alone?"
"Denied." Ozpin's smile appeared almost sadistic.
'Make it three days.' He cut off his own intended timeline for this lending a hand mission.
