"Auntie! Auntie!"
May tugs on my sleeve.
I look down at her. "Yes?"
She grins. "Are we gonna see the play now?"
"Yes." I say, patting her head. "We are."
May claps her hands together and bounces in her seat. "Yay! It's gonna be so much fun! I can't wait!"
I laugh. "It will be a fun day. I'm sure of it."
May nods, her eyes sparkling. "I'm so excited!"
The play begins with a bang, literally.
There's a loud explosion of color and noise from somewhere offstage, and the actors run out into the sunlight in their costumes and makeup. The crowd cheers, clapping and whistling.
May squeals, jumping up and down in her seat. "It's starting!" She cries. "Look!"
I smile at her, patting her head. "Yes. Yes, it is."
And then the play starts.
It's about a nobleman and a commoner, and their forbidden love. It's not particularly well-written or well-acted, but it does have its moments.
