While that conversation was happening far away from there, in a separate dimension at the very right edge of the exact same maze where Edward and the girls took the exam to join the guild, Kayden was facing the ancient slime.
"Awidlxbzoqbamx," the ancient slime was uttering a string of random letters in an attempt to form a sentence.
"Oh! You've finally gained a bit of sentience," Kayden said, one hand in his pocket, looking slightly surprised as thousands of tentacles surged toward him. "You evolved far too fast."
Kayden swept his left arm to the side, and as if invisible knives were dropping from the ceiling, all the tentacles were sliced to pieces, causing a rain of goo to fall.
At that moment, Kayden saw something that brought back the words of an ancient legend he had once heard: 'When it seemed like he had won, the slime smiled.' Those words flashed through his mind because that exact scene had just played out.
