Grandma and Grandpa Alden were also busy helping around the shelter, so they didn't come into the office with Kisha, choosing instead to let their granddaughter to rest there with the others.

They both knew she was exhausted after battling the mutated zombie, with only her husband by her side for support. Grandpa Alden went to the front lines with Keith, helping to collect crystal cores, and from time to time assisted in hauling zombie carcasses to the growing mound that would soon be set ablaze.

Seeing Keith eagerly stuffing crystal core after crystal core into his backpack, Grandpa Alden let out a snort before getting to work himself. He plunged his dagger into a zombie's skull and pried out the core with practiced hands.
