The smile on Lucas's lips didn't change at all. He kept it up as if for himself, or maybe for someone else, or, maybe, directed at everyone, at the world itself.

The maid who had still yet to remember her manners spoke after leading them to a hall that seemed designed for reception. It was a definition of luxurious, but beyond that, of nobility. It wasn't cloying or glaring, but comfortable.
