"Mommy, why is Grandma sick?" Little An looked pitifully at Claudia Ross, with dried tear marks on her face.
Claudia Ross lamented, "Grandma encountered some bad things, that's why she got sick."
"Oh..." Little An nodded, half understanding: "I'll take good care of Grandma in the future and make her happy."
"You're such a good girl, An." Claudia Ross smiled with relief.
Esmee Perry also chimed in, not wanting to be outdone: "Me too, I'll take good care of Grandma and make her happy."
"You're a good girl too, Esmee."
Claudia Ross gave Esmee Perry a kiss on the cheek. She had already come to terms with Esmee Perry's background; after all this time, she'd grown attached, be it a person, or even a pet.
Esmee Perry happily leaned into Claudia Ross's embrace, a smile on her little face, secretly thinking, if I'm so well-behaved, Mommy probably won't abandon me, right!
