Chapter 266 - Chains of Choice

Wael had just begun to like Arslan, even looking up at him as a father figure. But the sight of the baby wiggling in the bundle and laughing out loud innocently pained him.

 

It reminded him that Arslan probably didn't think the same of him.

 

That Wael was but a child he had picked up on the side of the road.

 

That in the end, he had no one.

 

Wael might have been freed of his anklet. But at that moment, he felt its weight tugging at his heart. It might have been unseen, but it was still there. In the form of a happy baby that he would be forced to watch grow up, loved and cared for.

 

Wael despised the child almost instantly.

 

He had everything Wael had been denied.

 

He didn't know what it meant to be robbed of one's humanity and treated like vermin.

 

No one claimed him as their possession.

 

He was lucky.

 

He was a master even though he was young.

 

And Wael was his servant.

 

He couldn't stand that.
