Chapter 283 - Closure

" Aren't we all going to end up like this?" Zarqa looked down at the grave marker. "Warrior or not, no one ever could escape death when their time comes."

 

Ali Baba's brow furrowed slightly as he returned to skulking, eyes fixed down this time. " He could have…" he mumbled.

 

Zarqa looked at him with a raised eyebrow, and the boy buried his face in his arm, as if trying to hide from her glance. " If it weren't for me… he could have survived…"

 

Zarqa considered the boy carefully, trying to make something out of his shameful reaction. " And I presume that if it weren't for him, you would have died?" She posed.

 

The boy turned his head slightly so only his deep brown eye peeked back at her, but Zarqa wasn't looking at him anymore. She fixed her eyes on the sky above, as if trying to discern something from the stars themselves. 

 

She drew in a deep breath, ready to open the lid as well.
