Chapter 280 - Chapter 280: The First Casualty of the War?

[3rd POV]

While Gwen was battling it out with Knull deep in space, the X-Men were preparing for the incoming Symbiotes. The large fleet was breaking off into two different forces, one traveling towards Earth, the other traveling towards Mars.

The one going towards Earth was bigger than the one going to Mars. Likely because the God of symbiotes severely underestimated the power of Malzif and the other defenses that had been built into the planet.

That, and he likely didn't know about the M'Kraan crystal or the Web of Life and Destiny. Because if he knew those were on the planet, he would absolutely have focused entirely on attacking that city, as if he were to get his hands on either of those objects, who knows what he could have done with them.

But instead, he sent a little under half of his main fleet towards the planet. The mutants of Malzif, the Inhumans, and the Eternals all ready and prepared as the ones that could survive in space were in the upper atmosphere, floating just below the barrier around the planet, ready to destroy as many of them as possible.

The beams of orbital cannon fire were continuously leaving the planet, as they ripped into the two different fleets, more specifically the one that was actively heading towards the planet.

"How long till the fleet arrives?" The voice of Ikaris of the Eternals echoed into the voice comms, to one of the other men in the space within the upper atmosphere.

"Estimated to be around two minutes out" The voice of Gabriel Summers responded, the elder brother of Scott Summers. He was an Omega Level mutant of immense power that had the ability to control all energies, and was incredibly strong.

He was one of the strongest mutants in the city, and had become a leader amongst those that travel to other universes. And he was only continuing to improve through training and learning new things thanks to Gwen's specialized training programs.

"And how difficult should we expect this to be?" A version of Magneto questioned, in his space suit as he floated alongside the countless others. This was a valid question, as while most of them were heavy hitters, not all of them were.

And they shouldn't waste the lives of those that are weaker in a battle like this one.

"Not too bad. We already are prepared for the small fry and the dragons. But if the corrupted Celestial comes out we'll have to bring in either Nate, Franklin, or Jean to take it out" Gabriel responded, knowing that those three were the only ones that could safely take care of a Celestial.

Corrupted Celestials were weaker, so it made their job easier.

Franklin had been really growing into his power, and was one of the strongest people on Mars, even though he was the only Franklin on the planet at this point. Nate had become a powerhouse over time, and thanks to the extensive training he had been put under, his telepathic powers only continued to thrive.

And Jean was...well Jean. Her power with the Phoenix Force was incredible and had been growing thanks to the training. Not to mention the fact that she had reached Godhood through cultivation, so it had only strengthened her further.

"Alright, I doubt he'd send one of them here anyways. Gwen expects him to send them to Earth or use them as backup in his fight against her. They are basically his trump cards after all" Ikaris responded, glad to know that even with a corrupted Celestial being a potential foe, they'd be fine.

It would certainly cause more damage and be a lot more difficult, but they'd be fine.

Soon the symbiote fleet began to arrive, first small stragglers reaching their location, as blasts of energy ripped through them, the orbital cannons firing at full power, and the shields around the planet burning them whenever they got too close.

Laser beams ripped from Ikaris's eyes, tearing through dozens of symbiotes as the group of over a hundred mutants, Inhumans, and Eternals all fought against the massive symbiote fleet. The orbital cannons and the shield were doing a lot of the work, but not all of it.

Especially not when the dragons had been upgraded so that they could pump out more symbiotes of their own. Forcing the fighters to focus almost entirely on the dragons so that they wouldn't endlessly make more symbiotes, which would cause a lot more problems for them the longer it went on.

With a roar, one of the dragons was split in half as energy ripped through it, courtesy of Gabriel and his incredible power. At the same time, Ikaris tore the head off of another dragon, the rest of it being burnt away from the flames of a Sunspot that was capable of flight.

After only a short fight, most of the symbiotes had been slaughtered, the combination of mutants, Inhumans, Eternals, and the weapons that Gwen made, all working together to completely destroy the fleet that would normally have caused so many problems for any other civilization.

While fighting, most of the fighters all had a thought on their mind.

'Hopefully Gwen can finish this soon!'

On Earth similar thoughts were being expressed. But with much more haste, as their battle was more difficult than that of Malzif's, and unlike Mars, they had to deal with a damn celestial, one that had managed to shatter the shield on the outside of the planet.

Thankfully, they had Blue Marvel, Thor, Hulk, Captain Marvel, and the Sentry. Who had all worked together to rip the head off of the corrupted Celestial, but with some difficulty.

"What the hell is taking Gwen so long!?" Tony asked, as a repulsor beam ripped into the head of another symbiote, as they fought in the streets of New York itself. Which had been evacuated a long time ago.

"She must be struggling with Knull more than expected!" Captain America responded, as he blocked the blow of a symbiote, before slamming his shield into it, making it splatter against the nearby wall with a crunch sound.

"Well she needs to hurry the hell up! Because between these damn symbiotes and the dragons, we're struggling here, even with the help of the damn planet itself!" Luke Cage yelled, grunting as he fought back against one of the various symbiotes that was trying to take him over.

In the skies above, thunder and lightning arced and boomed, as Thor rained down lightning upon every single symbiote that he caught in his sights. While also slamming his hammer into any that dared to get close to him.

The Hulk was roaring and destroying as many as possible. Blue Marvel was flying through the city ripping through thousands of symbiotes. And even the Sentry was working with them, burning them with the power of a billion exploding suns.

All the heroes of Earth were working together to stop the Symbiotes.

While Gwen? Gwen was battling against Knull, grunting as she struck at the entity over and over and over. Her blade cut him only for him to heal, while he did the same to her. He was getting better and better the longer they fought, as he was adapting to her, just as she was adapting to him.

But the problem with that was that he was a multiversal level entity, while she...was not.

Eventually, it came to a head, as she failed to dodge her first stab from the man, as a grunt of pain echoed from her, as she looked down. The sight of the Necrosword shoved cleanly into her chest, causing her to chuckle.

"Damn, seems you were a bit stronger than I thought" Gwen said, as Knull grinned.

"Any last words, foolish little worm?" Knull asked, as Gwen grinned.

"Nah, but I have to thank you for letting me stall for so long!" Gwen said, as the alert was sent to the heavy hitters, all of them ripping into the skies as they zoomed towards their location at full speed.

All the while Gwen's form began to glow, as she said another line to the entity before her.

"Oh, and clones are really really damn useful" Gwen grinned out, as her form exploded a second later, revealing that this was in fact, a simple clone.

Not even the full force of her power.

As the heavy hitters all arrived around Knull, their forms glowing while Knull raged in anger. They all knew it was time to stall him for as long as they possibly could, while Gwen was in the tower of fate, surrounded by objects and serums, eyes shut as her form glowed with incredible power.

On a screen above her, were simple words, and those words were...

"Project Rebirth: 75% Assimilated. Estimated time before "Rebirth": 3 Minutes, 5 seconds"

IF it is, then it'll be a long chapter, as there will be a LOT going down. And whenever the last chapter of the War happens, it'll be the most important chapter in this entire fanfic.
