This is a method of visual navigation used by flying creatures known as Ridgeback Beasts. Similar to bats, they use sonic waves for positioning. The horn on their head is used for collecting the returning sounds, giving them an exceptionally long range of vision. They can detect prey several kilometers away through sonar feedback.
When this Ridgeback Beast skimmed past the clouds of the Flying Throne, the Grey Serpent Dragon leaped directly onto its back. The serpent-like lower body tightly coiled around its dorsal fin, and a pair of draconic claws dug deeply into the Ridgeback Beast's back.
The intense pain caused the Ridgeback Beast to involuntarily open its mouth and let out a massive roar, sending a palpable sonic wave rushing from its throat.
Boom!
