I landed gracefully near the group, my boots kicking up a bit of dust as I arrived where Uzui, his rescued wives, Shalltear, and her summoned vampire brides were waiting. The moment my presence was felt, all eyes turned toward me.
"Alex, you're back," Uzui said, his voice carrying a note of relief. He gestured to the three women standing close to him. "These are my wives—Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru."
The three women, each with their own distinct presence, eyed me with varying expressions of curiosity and gratitude.
"And this," Uzui continued, turning to his wives, "is Alex, the one who helped me get you out."
Suma immediately brightened. "Oh, thank you so much! I thought we were dead for sure!" she exclaimed dramatically, clutching her hands to her chest.
Makio huffed, crossing her arms. "Tch. We wouldn't have been captured in the first place if Suma hadn't been so loud."
Hinatsuru, the most composed of the three, simply smiled at me. "Thank you. Truly."
I gave a small nod, my gaze briefly flickering to Uzui, who was now scanning me with sharp eyes.
"It's already morning," he said, his expression unreadable. "We were waiting for you… but, Alex—" His voice lowered slightly, his tone carrying weight. "Did you kill Upper Six?"
Makio, standing beside him, stiffened at the mention. "That demon… she called herself Upper Six. She was the one keeping us imprisoned."
Uzui's grip on his swords tightened slightly, his keen eyes searching my face.
I smirked. "No, I didn't kill her."
Uzui's brow twitched slightly, his lips parting as if he wanted to ask why. But before he could, a quiet chuckle reached my ears.
I turned to Shalltear, who was smirking knowingly.
Her crimson eyes gleamed with amusement as she delicately covered her mouth with a gloved hand. Though she didn't say anything outright, I could tell—she knew. The faintest twitch of her nose confirmed it.
Vampires had an excellent sense of smell. She could pick up the lingering traces of Daki's scent on me.
More specifically, the scent of perfume mixed with something much more… intimate.
Shalltear knew exactly why I hadn't killed Daki.
Yet, to my surprise, she kept it to herself.
Instead, she simply smiled at me in a way that said, I know, but I won't say a word… for now.
I ignored her for the moment, shifting my attention to the vampire brides still standing nearby.
Each of them exuded an eerie, regal beauty, their gazes cold and calculating. They were powerful, no doubt about it, but they had also served their purpose here.
"You performed well," I told them simply, offering a small nod of approval.
The brides, despite their usual arrogance, seemed pleased with the acknowledgment. Some even smirked, their eyes gleaming with dark satisfaction.
Shalltear, still smirking, tilted her head. "How rare for you to praise them. Shall I take that as a sign you're impressed?"
I glanced at her. "I don't give out empty praise."
She giggled, clearly amused.
Then, turning back to the vampire brides, I gave a simple command. "That's enough for now. Dismiss them."
"As you wish," Shalltear said smoothly. With a graceful flick of her wrist, the vampire brides dissolved into crimson mist, vanishing without a trace.
Uzui and his wives, having never seen something like that before, looked visibly unsettled.
Suma clutched Uzui's arm. "Th-They just disappeared!"
Makio frowned. "What were those?"
Hinatsuru, while composed, still looked fascinated. "Cool.."
Ignoring their reactions, I turned back to the group.
"Now that we've settled everything, let's get moving," I said. "We're done here."
Uzui exhaled, shaking his head as if to clear his thoughts. "Right. Let's go."
