Once Wrath was no longer influencing Kayn's thoughts and actions, a sense of peace and calm came over him, one that he hadn't felt for a long time. He sat in revelry of this feeling for a few moments before focusing on the task at hand.
He brought Polix's core to his mouth and shoved the whole thing in like a massive jaw breaker. As he crushed and ground the core, it began to melt as well due to his unique nature. Once he swallowed the core, he immediately felt a massive influx of powerful and potent mana.
After beginning to circulate the Void Star technique, Kayn didn't move from his spot for over two months in order to fully digest and incorporate the former emperor's mana into his own. This one core had brought him straight from below middle tier to the high tier of the 6th stage, something that he didn't think even five or six regular 6th stage cores could do.
A bit of greed then ran through Kayn's mind, if he could somehow get his hand on Mitas's core, wouldn't he reach the peak of the 6th stage quite easily and most likely be the undisputed strongest on Lavanth?
Kayn pondered on this thought for a while before deciding that he would dedicate exactly one month to finding the lich. If he couldn't find him during this time, he would use the map Yelena gave him and fly to the other continent to find Lara, Charlotte, and Kinzie.
It was only a matter of time now before he saw his sister and he didn't think anything would happen to them in the month he decided to spend looking for Mitas.
…
24 days had passed since Kayn began looking for any sign of Lich King Mitas, but he found no clues to his current whereabouts. He found his old research lab and home, but after that, nothing. No one had any information on him either.
Kayn didn't think he ascended as someone surely would have spotted the tribulation, but he may have run to a different continent using one of his undead dragons before ascending. Or he just took over a small area wherever he fled to.
During his search, Kayn destroyed whatever remnants remained of the undead's hold in Lavanth. He met a few villages of cursed races, but they were those who had fought against the Lich King's orders and had suffered for it.
Cursed races weren't inherently bad, and most of them found ethical ways to source their needs as well. It was the greedy and bloodthirsty ones who sided with the Lich King that Kayn ended up wiping out during his days slaughtering the enemy.
To his surprise, there were many words written out in boulders or large logs for those flying above the areas near villages. It was all words of praise and thanks for freeing their people from tyranny and for getting rid of the ilk of their race. Kayn was surprised at their harsh judgement towards their own, but he understood it. Their words also brought him some peace of mind for his actions that could be seen as atrocities of genocide.
Now, on day 25, Kayn was currently following a possible lead on Mitas after he stumbled upon the lair of a lich just as powerful as Mitas who had no intention to join any undead army or fight any wars and just wanted to be left alone. Initially Kayn was going to kill her, but soon realized that she literally did nothing but sit inside of a room and write books.
There were no undead around her, no experiments being done, nothing. She just had a massive library full of books. She stated that her love of books trumped everything in life and that she only became a lich so that she could forever read new books released while trying to perfect her own novel series.
Kayn was stumped and when he asked how Mitas didn't force her to join the war efforts, she scoffed and released some of her aura, which greatly started Kayn. She said that if the old bastard wanted to force anything on her, he would die first, permanently at that.
While Kayn could fight her, he really had no reason to. Instead, he offered her some books from his own collection that he grabbed on Earth in exchange for any information regarding Mitas. The lich gladly accepted the deal and was even more intrigued when the books she was given came in a different language than she was used to.
She had traveled between worlds before, but the languages that worlds with mana used were all very similar and had little to no differences. However, these books were written in several different languages, all distinctly different! She was so excited to begin deciphering the languages and reading them that she tried to hug Kayn for his wonderful gift.
Kayn slowly backed away and avoided the hug from the lich, but still asked for the information regarding Mitas again. Surprisingly, she had somehow placed a short distance magical tracker on the Lich King without his notice and was keeping track of him to make sure he stayed away from her place.
Unfortunately though, she said the tracker had stopped working after the Lich had moved a certain distance away from the continent about half a year ago. This only confirmed for Kayn that the Lich had left the continent, but Kayn still wanted to see if he could catch up to him.
Another day passed, and after thinking about it, Kayn decided to stop his pursuit and find his sister, his pursuit for power couldn't compare to his own family. Although he had spent several years away dealing with Lavanth's war and building his own power up, it was time to get back to his family. To be around those he loved and to just enjoy life for a while.
He oriented himself with the map Yelena provided him and began his flight in that direction at a pace faster than probably anyone else in this world could fly.
However, before he could even get to the border of the Lavanth continent, he felt something in the air. It was faint and there weren't many who would be able to know what it was let alone sense it, but he knew and it was bad news. An aura that was barely at the 2nd stage could be felt out of nowhere was one that he was quite familiar with as he had it to, the aura of an Obsidian Void Dragon.
The reason his race could be tracked down even if they were weak was due to this very same aura that was more of a curse-like radar beacon for those with the proper tracking tools wishing to harm them.
Panic exploded within Kayn, he blasted off in the direction he felt the aura from as fast as he could manage, but he didn't think that was going to be enough to beat the Celestials to his sister. Therefore, he did the only thing he could do at this point.
He took off his own aura suppression ring and fully pushed his aura out. Kayn, being at the 6th stage and stronger than any other Obsidian Void Dragon to have existed in this world, was able to easily overpower and squash Lara's own minuscule aura into nothing, firmly hiding it amongst his own.
Even half of the world away, Kayn's aura was so powerful that those who usually couldn't feel auras felt the domineering presence over them. Not only was Kayn pushing out the aura to be able to be sensed by the Celestials, but he was actively using it. Everyone on the massive world of Talgonoth was feeling the same exact pressure right now.
They felt the pride, the dominance, and the arrogance of the being who was letting them know of its presence. Those who had been around during the time of dragons recognized the aura of a dragon, but this felt stronger than anything they had every felt, even from Elder Red Dragons.
Rather than let their curiosity win over by going out to search for this being, they all scrambled into their homes to hide.
Kayn continued to push out his draconic nature as much as possible as he reached extraordinarily fast speeds, the ocean passing underneath him rapidly. That was until he was forced to a complete and sudden stop by a powerful presence right in his path.
As Kayn looked at the human woman staring at him with disdain on her face, she spoke. "What a prideful aura for one so weak that has done nothing but hide while his entire race was wiped out. I figured your aura would be more cowardly."
Kayn clenched his fist tightly as he was upset that he only managed to draw one of the Celestials his way, but he instead smirked and spoke in an arrogant manner. "Only one of you Celestial dogs came my way? What happened to the rest? You think you can kill me alone?"
The woman's face frowned when she was called a dog, but she laughed instead and decided to reveal the truth since this dragon, no half-dragon, would be dead soon anyway.
"Listen up mister halfie, we didn't expect any half-breed lizards from that group of prideful bastards, but here we are. Makes sense why you didn't want to defend them if you were shunned away initially, but alas, orders are orders and you will die today. As for why it's just me, that's simply because once the princess went and blew herself up, we thought our job was done so everyone else but two of us returned. We wanted to make sure we wiped out the last of you lot so we stayed behind just in case. Turns out the time I wasted here wasn't in vain."
Kayn was at first excited to hear what she said, and then he became more worried than ever. She mentioned two of them staying behind, if so, where was the other one?
As if reading his mind, she gave him a devilish smile and spoke, "My partner is currently on his way to that other smaller aura we felt before you tried to wash it out with your own. I should be enough to kill you, and if not, I'll have help soon enough. However, considering not even your former emperor could so much as pressure me, I don't have high hopes for someone who's not even a full Obsidian Void Dragon, nor at the peak of your world."
Worry and determination took over Kayn's thoughts and without another moment passing, he went all out on the attack. He needed to get to Lara before anything could happen to her and if that meant going straight through this so-called Celestial, then so be it!
